Well it was new to me at any rate. As I was coming up my drive,I saw a striking red snake. I had to stop to keep from hitting it. My first thought was a rosy boa, which I see occasionally. I quickly realized that it was too long and slim at probably close to 5 feet. It was too close to get a picture from inside my truck, so I opened the door, and it took off like a flash. I looked it up and think it was probably a Western red racer, which is related to the coach whips we had back in the Southeast where I grew up. Here is a picture I found on the web.

Re: I saw an unusual snake yesterday
Years ago,
I fished at lake vail a lot. On the way to the back of the dam, I would see red rattlers in the area quite often.
Take care

Red racer. They are fast I saw one while I was hiking up in the Lagunas, and saw another swimming across the narrows at Hodges.
