Tidelands....a nice ride....

Float tubes are a convenient and affordable way to get on the water, and finally get to those fish that you can't reach from shore. Discuss float tubes, outfitting float tubes for fishing, and float tube fishing.

Tidelands....a nice ride....

Post by Carpkiller »

Great weather, tide and wind not bad, a bit of chop.

Had a full day.

There were three red skiffs, four kayaks and two float tubes pounding a certain dock...not much happening there and everyone left.

Except me...got a bite as I was leaving and hung around a while....and the USN security boat came on shift. When he motored up I had just snagged a lure in some eelgrass, and went even close to the dock to get it free. The guy beeped his siren a couple times...I guess he figured I was ignoring him. As I got the lure free, he motored up and gave the a 50 cal stinkeye, and shut off the motor to holler at me.

"This isn't quite 300 feet, is it?"

"No."

"I'm out of here, then. Have a good one. "

Anyway I covered a lot of water and only got eight spotties.

Four of these..this one was nearly 20 inches long...

Got a flash of silver...expecting a corvina but nope.

and finally...an existential question.

The few times I have gotten too close to the Navy docks they have always 1st asked me how the fishing was before telling me to leave.

Nice fishing…. The 50 cal stinkeye doesn’t sound vey neighborly…

To be fair, the first time he blipped the siren at me I waved and gave him a thumbs-up...meaning I'd be leaving. But at the time, I was snagged in the eelgrass within ten feet of the Navy dock, and was in the process of pulling the line free. From his POV, it looked like I was continuing to fish...
