Shocking day at the D. K.
Rumor has it that they just did some electroshocking to do a fish count at the lake..that might explain why the fish kind of seemed to be in a coma! I tried to get some topwater going early, but the fish weren't having it...I didn't see any surface action so I lost interest pretty fast. I switched over to my trusty jerkbait, but it wasn't so trusty for me today..even though I think Fisheromen got his fish throwing J.B.s. I ended up with 10 fish, biggest going 4.3! I needed that nice one because the rest were mostly size challenged.

Ahh...the ever changing patterns of what works best to get the bass to bite each week.
Nice job of being flexible with what you throw as bass fishing at times can be very
as one week they like one bait and the next they pretty much ignore it.....especially
up at the Lake of D & K.
Thanks for sharing and tight lines always.

Still a good day!
Shocking fish for counts. Is SD Water District starting to care again? What's next, they will start clipping fins again and asking for counts? Just kidding, any love for the lakes is good love=)

Surely you jest....the water people caring about the fish..hahahaha! I believe the PUD runs the lakes..there couldn't be a worse choice with the fisherman in mind!KillinTime wrote: Fri May 10, 2024 6:53 pm Still a good day!

Don't tell anyone, but I saw small bass chasing shad on the surface in the narrows! Shhhh!
All but my biggest, a 3.53 pounder, came on a small jerkbait. Also caught a crappie and a bluegill on the same bait.

You’re smart not to tell anyone where you were and what you saw and caught those fish on because next week who knows who will be in that same spot fishing besides you.Fisheromen wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 2:09 pm Don't tell anyone, but I saw small bass chasing shad on the surface in the narrows! Re: Shocking day at the D. K.
I believe theres some of us that truly enjoy showing up to a lake that hasn't been blown up on the internet. No live scope to find the fish for us. And fish and enjoy nature. Maybe you'll see a eagle .
If your at these lakes , and see theres
Lots of boats in the parking lot, and not many sdfish reports.
Go fishin ' enjoy the day.

Re: Shocking day at the D. K.
My Topwater bite has declined as we get into the middle of May. Still a lot of strikes, maybe less hookups and it ends earlier. The Jig bite is starting to take off. Lots of hits on the drop. More on the 20 second dead stick. Still a lot of healthy broad shouldered Bass to War with. I try to give them what they want.
I overfished in the last week so I’m laying low for some recovery time. Bad case Bass elbow exacerbated by heavy Braid, I bumped into a Cactus while fishing McGee Reservoir on Catalina island, my legs tired from all the Hiking and Float Tubing every day last week. I’ll see some of you at Barrett Wednesday on the Hobie, fresh and ready…

Re: Shocking day at the D. K.
Most people don't want to make the trek out to D.K...the majority of people there on fridays are Ramonians! Most people don't feel comfortable fishing a lake they don't know..especially during the post-spawn season and changing water levels!...but Vinny is always welcome, if he has a tank full of gas!VinnyBass wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 3:35 pmYou’re smart not to tell anyone where you were and what you saw and caught those fish on because next week who knows who will be in that same spot fishing besides you.Fisheromen wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 2:09 pm Don't tell anyone, but I saw small bass chasing shad on the surface in the narrows! Re: Shocking day at the D. K.
I haven’t fished Sutherland in a long time. I would love a crack at that place, I know some Pigs are hiding in there.
Yes, Catalina has several mystical Reservoirs. A full on logistical nightmare to fish them. I hiked until my legs were ready to fall off. Full overland trails that were more Bison Paths, they were extremely steep with hidden Bombs. It took me 20 years to get invited and I landed 46 Bass to 5 pounds in the five hours I was able to fish it. 17 on Topwater, the rest on a 1/8 ounce jighead and a ZMan Streakz Fluke. An Epic and Expensive adventure, but glad to be back. Also a great test for my new Travel Rod, an OceanMaster ( Bass Pro Shops Brand)Inshore 3 piece Fast Taper Spinning Rod rated at 8-17 #, it definitely catches fish. Whales, Dolphins, Giant Boat Ride, Palatial Accommodations, Great Meals, and Solitude, were in abundance.

Nice adventure and results! Like the sounds of that travel rod! Except now I’m on Bass Pro looking at it and the credit card is handybendopolo 44+ wrote: Sun May 12, 2024 11:20 am I haven’t fished Sutherland in a long time. I would love a crack at that place, I know some Pigs are hiding in there.

Re: Shocking day at the D. K.
JWall, the 12-25 rated one is really a Pool Stick. I may get the lighter one for 6 pound stuff. My first new rod in 20+ years thanks to a large purchase at Phoenix Rods in Orange a long time ago. Thanks Ty.
OK, I ordered the light Rod, it was on sale!
