Re: I'm in.

Yay!!! Good to see you in new waters. Haven’t been out as much of late but need to get on the bay soon. It is a blast.

King Tides Sunday 12-15

Major tide moving out after 8am but maybe the full moon overnight and bluebird skies w cool mornin noreasterlies thwarted a better bite. Started and spent the majority just south of the bridge at Square Mile and then did drifts outside the Cays and the Sweetwater mouth. Threw gulps, ned rigs, and ...

Big Bay Sunday 2-2 Spotties MIA

Was hoping for a day like others described yesterday but no dice. Plenty of water moving but couldn’t find them bunched up. No luck on the Buts but didn’t spend much time there. Maybe better in the afternoon? When they were biters, these did the trick.

Unexpected day in O'side

Thursday I decided to test iout my boat after doing some work to the motor. I wasnt expecting doing much fishing due to the tide was going out and I found they were dredging the mouth of the harbor. Fishing during the dredging I have found is not the ideal time to fish much less that the tide was ...

Good to be back…Big Bay 8-31

Been months since I’ve hit the bay but brought 3 rods to an informal celebration of life this morning. Before spreading ashes we fished Square Mile and just like days of old, chucking plastics and other baits produced spotties and fond memories. Most came on a perch colored minnow pinned to a 3/16 ...

Big ones!

Went out on the Old Glory and it was super fun...we went all the way to Tanner on an overnight boat (big thanks to the Captain). Got there about an hour after first light and there were 30+ boats there already on anchor. we did the same and in short order I hooked (and subsequently landed) a BFT ...

Barrett Sept 24

Fished Barrett yesterday for the first time in 5 or 6 years. Physical issues kept me away.

Made the trip out there yesterday with my brother. He lives nearby with kids and work its difficult to get together to just hang out. Plan was to go spend the day and take what we could get. Got a later ...

Redington Wrangler 690-4S review

Most of the hype, conversation, and advertising for quality fly rods revolves and the mid through high cost range but there are a still some pretty good rods for less than $200 from established fly gear companies that sell through brick and mortar dealer networks. Unfortunately prices have risen ...

Re: Favorite fish finder and size on kayak

I have a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv. I like its size and features, but wished it had the ability to upload/download waypoints and maps. You can create your own maps, but it sure would be nice to have a map of place ahead of time instead of making one real time. It has a “share user data” feature but ...

Re: Favorite fish finder and size on kayak

I’m having really good luck with my Lowrance 5 inch. My buddies all have 7 and 9 inch but I think too much screen gets in the way, at least for me. It is pretty close to my face so no readability issues. I bought a 1 year old upgraded Chart Chip off EBay with better bottom topography for $50. Works ...

Re: Favorite fish finder and size on kayak

Looks like in general, I should just keep the sample size one, as it does do the basics well. Thanks for the help and saving me money.

Sure! You may stick to your trusty one dimensional unit, similar to the Humminbirds and Lowrance units I've been using for decades of successful fishing. Those ...

Re: Favorite fish finder and size on kayak

Thanks for the nice write up. You pretty much nailed what I was thinking about with the fishfinder. I'm happy that you use the 7" unit. That was my biggest concern was getting some large screen and then impacting my movement in the kayak. I'll probably match your setup. Next I have to design my ...

Re: Kayak 2.5 Suzuki / Spot lock mod.

Hi Dave, I'll fumble around with that and see what I can do. First I am going to try with what pictures I can find. Here is the setup for the full outrigger. When I use the small outriggers the motor mount is very similar but none of the parallel to the kayak rigging you see. ] I have never been as ...

Otay Sunday 12/17

Had an awesome morning ultralight fishing this morning at Otay. Caught over 30 chunky bluegills. I was jigging 3i nch Yamamoto shad shaped worms and a small 2inch sinking jerkbait. What a great time!

New tube ordered!

I finally pulled the trigger on a new float tube from Netherlands called Float Plus. Bladderless, dropstiched floor and seat, undermount motor ready, and they are installing the fold up wheels for me at no additional charge.

Of course I'll still have to glue on my fish finder mounting brackets ...
