Re: Sept15 HODGES

I'm also looking forward to October at Hodges. That lake was a lot of fun in April, I'm hoping that your theory is right and we can get some of those big fish lurking in there this fall as they pack it in for the winter.

Barrett Report September 21st

Hi

We are getting to the end of the Barrett season, only a couple more days of the lake being open. Got there around 0500 and it was a pretty packed lot at pigs, so everyone was getting their last casts in, I'd guess. Air temp was cool, water temp was 71-72F. Maybe a little breeze occasionally, but ...

Re: The Fish Were Stacked!

You love fishing jigs because you are amazing at it. Or, probably more correct you worked hard to learn them and become amazing at them. I think your feel of the structure might be better than panoptix. :)

Re: First time at Barrett questions about ticket

You just go to the lake and someone will greet you there and check your name off the list. You have to drive on a dirt road for about 10-15 minutes ( depending on how you drive ) and they will likely be parked right before the pigs turnoff. There's a yellow gate on the main road and it says Barrett ...

Barrett Report September 25th

Well, that's it for me for this year.

Got to the lake in the dark. Met Chuck and we had a nice time. Water temp was at 70F and by the end of my day it went to 73F. Light wind from the North early.

We were determined to catch fish on topwater and I'm happy to say it worked out. Chuck was getting ...

Re: What was your secret bait or lure?!

My favorite this year was a popper. I used the Googan one, but the Megabass PopMax one was also a good one for me. The best blowups came for me on the Pompadour though. And of course the #5 and #7 floating Rapala, which is my go to bait.

Re: Bass and Crappie Dialed In!

Great video Chris and it's always fun fishing with you. I do love the topwater, but if you keep teaching me, I can clearly see some advantages to the jigs. Although, what you have learned is so subtle, I think it does take some time, practice and patience. With my popper it's seldom a soft tap from ...

Re: Second best fish of the year 10/1

That's a great fish on any gear, that you got it on your BFS setup makes it even better. I really enjoy the BFS stuff too. I know big lures usually means big fish, but sometimes the big ones just want an in-between meal snack, I think.

Re: Sierra Report and Fish I.D.

Hi John, you have it correct, it's a brook trout, the cutthroat has the black spots for example.

Re: I'm so full of hope and dread I may have to stop fishing.

Hi Dan,

The struggle is real. I too go through a horrible withdrawal at the end of September when they close Barrett for the season. I am told there are other bodies of water that hold the very same fish as Barrett, just with a different level of cooperation. Through the support of friends, I have ...

Re: Lithium Battery Warning

Batteries are something that we tend to ignore and they can be an issue. I used to make devices that went into automobiles and I can't tell you how many battery issues I ran into. Mostly they would swell up in heat ( The dashboard of a car gets quite hot ) and the batteries would start to swell ...

That's some impressive fishing. I was thinking fishing has been a bit slow, but clearly you are on it. Now that Hodges is closed too, you may see me lurking around Otay. :)
