Re: Barrett report May 31st

Bg90 , I think it's just about perfect. The pedal assembly really is nice and since the kayak is fairly wide, I find, I stand up more. You can move yourself along by bending down and pedaling with your hand, so that's nice. I have the Sportsman 120 PDL, I think that it is an excellent size. I can ...

Barrett report June 3

Hi all,

Got on the lake a little before 5AM. Zipped across the lake from pigs and by 6AM I had 9 in the kayak and thought I couldn't miss. 6 on crankbait and 3 on jigs. Then I pretty much hit the brakes.Over the next 4-5 hours, I pulled in 6 more full size clones and 2 of this year's models. I'm ...

Barrett report June 11

Cloudy, grey day at Barrett today, although thinking about it, most of them have been this year. This one had intermittent wetting, not drizzle, but maybe rain-light. thumbnail_IMG_9524.jpg

Got to try out my very classy human baggie rainsuit. If you are ever cold, put one of those on. You will be ...

Re: Soft Plastics Colors and Combos

I'm throwing roboworms in Oxblood red flake, Aaron's magic and bitchin craw. Senkos are baby bass, green pumpkin and natural shad. All my jig trailers are the same versions of something green/brown from whatever came in a mystery tackle box.

Barrett report June 17

Hello all,

Short report with no pictures. Forgot my phone in the truck. Doesn't matter since there's no signal, it's only pictures I'm missing I thought. I caught a 2 pound 3 ounce crappie which is the biggest I have caught. He came on a full size crankbait, so that was also a surprise. My wife ...

Barrett report June 21

Here's the details on June 21 at Barrett. It was really a low wind day, most water surfaces were glassy smooth until 1130 or so. Slight wind at about 1030 or so in the wide open areas. For me the bite was in groups again. I got a total of 12. They were on the underspin, crankbait, few poppers and ...

Barrett report July 1

Well, Barrett of old is back as far as I am concerned. Chuck got 50 fish on Wednesday and yesterday I pulled in 40, 2 giant bluegills and lost more than I care to count. Water temp was 72-74 in the beginning of the day, warmest I saw was 79 in the shallow bays, by 1130. I also talked to a couple ...

Re: Favorite fish finder and size on kayak

I like the shuttle idea also. I was thinking to mount the Livescope unit behind my seat with the battery, but maybe with the shuttle I can put in the forward hatch, like you are doing. I have a Dakota lithium phosphate 10AH battery already so I'd parallel another one. I think this is a great setup ...

Barrett report July 8

Hi all,

Got on the water at 0420 today. Slight wind making a small chop on the water then. Pedaled over to Hauser and Becky's cove for the first light, which took a while. Whole lot of nothing. Zip. Nada. Of course on my first cast I had a boil that almost pulled my kayak in, so then I was ...

Re: Barrett report July 8

I'm surprised the Jitterbug didn't get a good reaction. I'm surprised the Headbanger also didn't, it just looks so good in the water. I wonder if there's something to the action in the front versus the side or back, because Whopper Plopper and Choppos also work great. I was just so amused with this ...

Re: Barrett report July 8

That first fish looks like a chunk. Did you weigh it?

I did and I had to weigh it a couple times, because I kind of didn't believe it. My scale said 5 pounds 4 ounces. It's very unfisherman of me, but I thought about 4 something max for that fish. He was pretty thick though. I'll calibrate that ...

Chuck, I owe this success to you. It is so much fun to catch them on the crawler. Before long, I'm sure you will see me using the megabass crawler.

Barrett report July 15th

Hello all,

Saturday was a nice day at Barrett. Sometimes I think it's easy to forget how amazing our world is and our sport gives us some interesting perspectives I'd think. Here's the morning, and it's possibilities.

Re: Murray AM

Hi VB,

Agree on the need for posting also. I work at a computer most of the day ( dreaming I am fishing ) so I like to take breaks to see what's happening out in the fishing world. It's great to see the updates and I like to read them all. It also helps inform those of us who only get a couple days ...

Barrett report July 22nd

Hello all,

Barrett was a bit quiet for me today. Got on the water at 0430 as planned, pedaled over to Pine Arm with a plan to fish all the little bays and alcoves on the west side of pine arm. I also was doing a little testing and was trying some new lures and colors. Maybe I should change only one ...

Re: Most fun and unusual baits for bass

Two weeks ago I was at Barrett and saw a dead rabbit in the water. I realized why the big rat lures work right there.

But for me, consistently this crazy crawler is the strangest thing I use ( and variants ) and every week I get some fish to claim it.

Re: Float tube fishing Lake Hodges?

They have you park at the boat dock now and that's pretty close to the water. Watch this video and you can see the setup.
