Re: What knot is the strongest for minijig
Always use the San Diego jam knot and know it holds up to forcing fish in whether it be from a pond to the offshore game.

Re: Keeping large channel cats
A 40lb channel cat fish would be an extremely rare catch. A 40lb catfish would more likely be a blue catfish or a flathead catfish.

Can you believe it? San Vicente Jun 5th
Hard to believe that today was my first time out this year. After going my whole life with excellent health, things have gone from bad to since I turned eighty. I really wanted to get out, actually I needed to get out. I got my boat out of mothballs and found that my trolling motor wasn't working. I ...

Re: Can you believe it? San Vicente Jun 5th
Same here Larry, since turning 75, things have definitely become more difficult getting out there. I tell myself I got to get out, but the yucky weather isn't helping!! Nor is the ugly water.
Glad you got out. Going to try myself tomorrow.

Peaceful Kayak Crappie Fishing Day
Continued my quest for improving my kayak crappie techniques on Father's Day with a very lazy 'gentlemans hours' kayak launch at 10:30 am. Weather was bright sunny and the water temp pushing 74.
The deeper side of the lake in the deeper channel areas seemed to be the ticket for finding them. Used ...

Re: Yuma panfishing
Senkosam,
On the canals in Yuma, there is current.
Trolling is impossible, if you’ve fished the canals. “No boats”
Those ultra lite jigs are not fishable in heavy current you’ll never get them to decent deep enough.
Drop shotting or heavy split shot is about the only way I’ve had any success ...

Re: Lake Hodges
No takers today
Saw quite a few carp - mostly jumpers or cruisers - no tail feeding - did see a few feeding on the surface (saw a lot of lips)
Not a warm sunny day early - thought that may have kept them down a bit
I hiked over to the end end so maybe I will try a different area next time

South Bay Report April 10th
Hit the south bay yesterday. Only a 2.9 foot tidal swing, but the fish bit ok. I got 25 spotties. Quality was good with a number of almost 14 inchers. Caught most of the fish in 5-8 feet of water on 1/4 oz jigs with shad tail plastics. Got a couple of corvina and one halibut in the mix also.

FISHERIES INVENTORY AND UTILIZATION OF SAN DIEGO BAY, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA FOR SURVEYS CONDUCTED IN APRIL AND JULY 2022
Vantuna Research Group published their 2022 survey a few months back. You can read the 82-page report here. They conduct this trawl and seine survey twice a year, every few years, so it's interesting to see the seasonal differences within a year, as well as trends over time. Additionally, they ...

Downtown cheetah bass
Cancelled my freshwater plans after the rain. Slept in all morning. Jumped in the water at 9:45(slack tide) calm and empty. Got bit right off.
I had a 1/4oz jig on 6lb and 1/2oz jig on 8lb. Crawling them deep in the middle of the bay. I got out at 12:30 cause it got crowded and windy.
