Re: San Diego mayor proposes cuts to lake access in budget plan

If you try to check this information, there may be some errors. Barrett isn't open 9 months a year, it's open 5 months a year, so he's already saving a bundle, just by clarifying. For the overview, I put together this little chart. reservoir daily cost.JPG Can someone explain why hodges is $3K per ...

Sign against reduced City Lakes access

Hey everyone, I saw this on Nextdoor.
If you go to https://www.change.org/topic/san-diego there is currently a petition to sign to keep Lake Miramar open more than just 2 days a week.
I imagine there will be many San Diegans out there doing what they can to try to fight reduced SD City lakes access ...

Public Comment...May 5th session

I attended the City Council session last night for Public Comment on the proposed changes to the 2026 City Budget. The place was filled to capacity with overflow in the media room. EVERYONE was fired up for their causes......so was I. Glad I got there early as I was one of the first to express my ...

Re: Enjoy your public lands while you can

So much support for our government not selling public lands. Yet, how did you vote? ;-) How did your loved ones vote? Acting surprised is funny. Trying to act after the matter is even funnier.

Like my mom said the SECOND time i put a fork in the outlet, "Para que aprendas, cabron."

Re: Enjoy your public lands while you can

Mencken quote... "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

Yep, and they still stick the fork in the outlet wondering what the outcome would be.

I prefer Einstein's quote regarding insanity.

51% of the country voted for this ...

Re: Fish recipes

https://bellyfull.net/salsa-roja/

This was great on top of seasoned and fried spotfin and corbina. "Aromatics are key for some recipes for this kind of fish.
My son followed the recipe and added 1/2 teaspoon of paprika. Leftover salsa is excellent on a variety of dishes, such as eggs with beans ...

Re: Fish recipes

Gotfish? wrote: Tue Jul 22, 2025 3:17 pm I will have to try it. Salsa mixed with avocado is a quick guacamole recipe too.

Who needs tartar sauce when you have salsa?
Well, I do like a quick sauce made of mayonnaise and Tapatio. But Salsa is fantastic.

Re: Tilapia in SoCal lake?

Tilapia have been caught in Hodges and Murray, they are thought to have been put there by someone buying them at Asian markets. They were not stocked by lake authorities. They do not over run other species like carp or snakeheads do. Some of the best bass fishing in the world is in Mexico where ...

Skin Cancer **kind of graphic**

Hey All, Just wanted to post a friendly reminder about covering up and using sunscreen, especially you younger guys.

This past Friday I had to have, what was thought to be, a dime sized spot of skin cancer removed from the left side of my forehead. Well once they started to remove it they found ...

Re: Skin Cancer **kind of graphic**

I am leaving Cabo San Lucas tomorrow. I’ve been here 10 days and have been wearing long sleeve water shirts, full brimmed hat and good Polaroid glasses the whole time. I was pretty religious about applying sunscreen, but missed reapplying 1st day and cooked my face. Dermatologist is not going to be ...

Re: Skin Cancer **kind of graphic**

+1 on protecting yourself everyone. I was diagnosed with Gorlin Syndrome 8-9 years ago which is a disease that basically guarantees the development of an abnormal amount of BCCs throughout one's life. Not ideal for someone who already spent their young life incinerating their skin.

I've had 15-20 ...

Re: Skin Cancer **kind of graphic**

About 20 years ago, I began wearing sun gaiters/face shields because I found myself in sunny conditions a lot, and sun screen on the face was a losing proposition as it had to be constantly reapplied and sun screen in the eyes is as fun as a kick to the balls. At the same time, I had adopted SPF ...

Re: Skin Cancer **kind of graphic**

Between all the fishing I have done, coaching for years, working outdoors and then shaving my head for the past 20yrs, I was always just too damn stubborn to use sunscreen. I am half Portuguese and have always had darker skin. If I did get sunburned it would be tan the next day so I always figured ...

Re: Skin Cancer **kind of graphic**

9 surgeries, mostly basel cell. A few squamous. I asked my dermatologist what I could do to stop this. He said, "nothing, the damage was done decades ago". Which is weird because I have never been a sun worshipper.

So this warning is mostly to the youth...who won't listen anyway!

Re: Anthropomorphism and why fish bite lures

Lets just say that the power of advertising in the fishing world often works pretty effectively.
For me, it does not matter what a lure may look like, or imitates, but if it is catching bass on YouTube videos,
I must admit I am one of the suckers that feels I just have to have that lure....ha ha ...
