Getting ready for 2025.
For the past month I think I placed a few orders online for crappie stuff (sorry bass no budget left for you). Most of the items are new and a few just replenished old stock. I think end up getting closer to 20 bags of plastics. Really have hope of some items like Zman stuffs, Slab Hunt’r and ...

Re: Otay
I went back for some more panfish action last Saturday.
Very nice day on the water. Wasn't really cold in the morning. Maybe 50 degrees. The water is still full of algae tho. Maybe even worst than the last trip. Only thing which was weird is that it didn't stick to the lines and split shots and ...

Crappies are on the move.
Despite it is gonna be colder but crappie already on the move from deep to their spawning site. Past weekend a guy told me he caught probably 30-40 crappie on the spot that I usually found them when first start moving. The next night I visited my usual spot and after figuring it out the depth and ...

Re: Getting ready for 2025.
You know, I've nailed quite a few big gills in 2024 but maybe one of you guys would be willing to school me on some crappie fishing one of these days? I've caught a few, but I'd really like to get a better feel for how to target and fish for them. I've always wanted to learn but most of my fishing ...

Re: Crappies are on the move.
It was better for the last two nights, caught probably 30 each night. They are not wide spread yet but crappie nibble plus a right color lure can get them to bite easier. They are still full of eggs so I am not sure if they already spawning or just gathering around. All released for success spawning ...

San V redear
Came across this picture of a Redear I got out of San V a few years ago. Weighed 3.74 lbs. Don’t know if it’s still the case but the lake record was 3.76! Missed it by that 🤏 much! I thought it was a bass on a bed and was shocked as hell when I netted it. Actually lost a bigger one right after this ...

Hodges and out past Ramona kayaking
I have not posted much but have been kayak fishing crappie between shore bay halibut trips and pond bass on weather days.
Lake Hodges 2/16 and 2/22. A few crappie and a couple nice bass both trips, some crappie released. Using various crappie jigs "out in the middle". Water temp 58 early and 62 ...

Re: Question for the group
Did I miss anything here?
It might be too late for the OP but if I target blue gill and don’t know body of water i would use 1/16oz drop shot with either night crawler or 1” Berkley gulp alive. I would drag or swim slowly or just drop and shake until you find hard bottom.
I hope @camobass wouldn’t ...

Green Sunfish within walking distance
Bored, near home, why not? Sometimes you gotta scratch the itch. These fish are shy and see a lot of people on the banks and I had to keep a low profile. If you flick an unhooked worm or sowbug into a pool, they will slam it. Attach same to a hook and they are much more cautious. They won't touch ...

Re: Green Sunfish within walking distance
Forgot to mention that I only caught fish when casting (more like swinging in this spot) the line to a horizontal presentation as far from my vantage point as I could without hitting weeds or shore. Once the bait settled for >10 seconds, that's when they took it. The horizontal presentation I guess ...

Re: Green Sunfish within walking distance
A wise old man whose name rhymes with Fishsticks taught me this...
A tiny (1/32 or 1/64 oz) jighead with 3/4 inch grub will get 'em. If you put it on the bottom and leave it there, next to a likely-looking rock or crack, with a very slight twitch every so often. Once you get the boss fish to whack ...

Re: Green Sunfish within walking distance
I hit a bigger deep pool downstream yesterday and landed 35 fish in a couple of hours. Used a tiny sliding bullet sinker and bead above the hook with worms. These fish, as opposed to those in the shallow pools, were willing to chase and strike the worm during the retrieve, though I caught most just ...

Re: Green Sunfish within walking distance
All those nutrients from sewer leakages should provide for a good insect hatch. And any mosquitos should have plenty of homeless prey to feast on. I have seen lots of crawdads in smelly creeks near my place, one man's sewage is another animal's treasure.
Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards ...

Homemade fly - first fish!
Exciting! It's a floating fly, but I used a split shot to get some cast distance and so turned it into a midwater fly today. Hastily constructed with a #8 hook, some wine cork, duck feather, funky bead and black thread. My first attempt at fly tying, not pretty, but I caught something! 20260325 ...

Saw a bunch of monster carp in the shallows at San V on Monday cruising the brush! They were back in the old chimney area.

Guajome Carp
They are in there and I tend to try for them with very light tackle (my sierra trout setup). If you can get away from the turtles you may find some nice ones.
