Closing out January in style

Made a trip on Sunday morning to my favorite local body of water. Was pleased to see the water level a couple feet higher on account of recent rain. Hopefully some more will bring that water level back up.

It was 3 days after the full moon and we had some favorable eastbound wind and a few warmer ...

Best day in a long time 1/29

Had an excellent day on the water at Murray today. Caught 13 bass in 4 hours with nary a dink in the bunch! These are the days that make up for the ones you gotta grind to get a bite haha!

San V 2/5 Looking for Noah

After listening to the local news last night I headed out this morning half expecting to find Noah and his Ark out there to avoid the flooding!

Pretty sunrise this morning and only two other boats out when I launched and according to the worker at the ramp they left fairly early so I was, literally ...

Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More Bass

Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More?
https://youtu.be/aooAO1DD0OE

Hey all I hope you’re staying dry. Headed out to El Capitan this Sunday and decided I would fish crawdads. I used to love fishing crawdads and haven’t done it for a while because many of my old crawdad holes no longer hold them ...

Re: Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More Bass

In the book Knowing Bass , the author describes an experiment done at Berkley where they started with a plastic craw and did modifications to see what worked best. Removing the claws and other legs worked the best. They tried longer, shorter and fatter shapes and the craw body size was about best ...

San V 2/18 Bees, busters and Bassholes!

I know I’m going to sound like a grumpy old man here but please bear with me.

To the Basshole in the white Ranger with beige and black stripes. Just because I started in the same spot you wanted to doesn’t mean you continue to roll in on me until you, literally, cast across me! Get to the lake ...

Re: San V 2/18 Bees, busters and Bassholes!

I hear you Moose.
I have learned to try to be more lenient when a guy with his family for example, are in rental boat and have no clue that when
they come close to where I am fishing or cut between me and the shoreline. Not fun, but I guess most do not really know any
better and are just out to have ...

Awesome multi-species day 2/23/24

Had an awesome multi-species day BFS fishing at lake Murray. Ended up with 13 Bass and two Trout. I was throwing mini Ned rigs, and tiny jigs with TRD Crawz trailers. Most of the bass were in the 2 pound range with one over 3, and another close to 4 lbs. I have to admit, BFS has rapidly become my ...

Badly kept secret!

Sutherland opened today and everybody seemed to know. I wrote a longer report but touched the wrong button and it vanished! Not as easy as it used to be, or I am dumber!
Short version: Water is cold, fish are in the stick-ups and seem to be few.

El Cap 3/5 cure for bass thumb

Had a serious case of bass thumb after yesterday at San V. All it took was a trip to El Cap to cure that! 😆 Been several months since I’d been there. It’s a totally different lake since the last time I was there.

I have always had pretty steady luck with a crankbait there so that’s what I started ...

Lake Dixon Today

With a little boat surgery, got 2 today.
Missed one pickup.
All on drop-shotted pumpkin Kreatures.
Got a chance to cruise the shoreline for the first time this year.
No well defined beds yet; but some smaller males are hanging around shallow developing beds.
Today's catch was all in about 20' of ...

3/18-Calm before the Storm

I wanted to fish this morning and even with the threat of severe thundershowers, I figured a few hours is better than nothing,
Loaded my kayak on the truck and didn't bring much tackle but had rain pants and jacket packed just in case. When I got to
the San Diego river is was clam and actually ...

Hodges report March 23

Got there bright and early and waited in line again. This time they did open, so that felt like a small victory. :)

Got on the water and noted that the water was already 64F. Dead calm, no wind at all. So the lake was literally telling me today would be a topwater day. Or so I thought. I picked ...

A lot of carp bycatches on live bait. They love dads. One time, while catfishing at the river, my bro caught a 40lb carp on an 8” goldfish.

Some fun on the home lake!

I got to the lake a little before sunrise, under cloudy, chilly conditions. There's still alot of water coming into the lake from the major creeks still, keeping the water temp kind of frosty feeling! I started the day throwing a small jerkbait and quickly hooked up with a couple size challenged ...

San V 3/30 Father/ son outing

My son came into town for the Easter weekend so we headed out into a rainy morning to see what we could find. Only three boats out there that I know of.

Headed to the scene of the crime of my last trip, Barona of course. Started the day out with a solid 3.7 on my third cast with a Senko. Picked up ...

First time in the tube! Murray 4/6

Weather finally cooperated and bro and I finally got to take the float tubes out for their maiden voyage. We figured Murray would be a great place to start as it’s a smaller body of water. We launched about 8am and basically just kicked a lap around the lake starting in Padre cove fishing along the ...
