With my favorite local body of water holding a two day tourney for the weekend I decided to change up the routine and forego my normal Sunday AM trip in favor of hitting the desert canals.

Just a short update that after some recent trips to Murray.....there are still plenty of small bass reacting to reaction baits.
While it is always nice to catch a healthy bass, it has still been fun trying different baits to catch these little buggers.
At least they are hungry.....ha ha. :-)

Hit up San V today for about a dozen cookie cutter 1lbrs plus a couple better fish. Two best went 2.6 and 3.1 both flippin deep bushes. Most of the rest came off various drop shot 6” Roboworms. Got driven off by the wakeboard boats about Noon. Fish were keyed on little 1” shad and breaking but ...

It seemed like forever since I fished last. Tied up with lots of things to take care of as it was one thing after another and I really
needed to get back on the water. Took care of some business this morning and rushed home and figured I would head up to Murray
for a few hours in my kayak. Oh wait ...

Fished sunrise to sunset, first time doing that in awhile, and first time to Otay in awhile too. Fog was sooooo pretty that I found it hard not to stop and make some art with my camera.

Had a couple spinning rods with me and tied up a dropshot on the lightest rod to fish a tiny, shallow pool in Creek X.
Nyet.
The next spot had potential for bigger fish. And it is accessed from a bank about 3 feet above the creek.

Ahaha. I fish at a pond near my house. Sometimes you get in some strange positions to catch a fish and one time I was holding on to a tree with one hand and planning to cast and then use my leg to hold on to the tree. I don't know why that seemed reasonable, I do things I don't always understand ...

The fish at San V are definitely smarter than me..as soon as I set the hook, they're burying themselves in the nearest tree before I can even get a crank on the handle!

Thought about hitting Murray(lots of dinks chasing reaction baits)this morning for a few hours, but changed my mind. Since I have not
been to the SD river in a while, I loaded my flippin' stick and another rod(both rigged with straight braid) and headed there. I was
shocked at how high the water ...

Got out early at Lower Otay on Wednesday. Crowds were light and I picked up a few bass early AM on finesse swimbaits over the top of the grass. Once the sun came up things slowed down shallow so I went looking for Shad schools out deep. Picked up a couple more 1-2lb bass down in the 40ft range ...

My favorite creek bait (3 in bass assassin) is a comfort bait, but not nearly effective in lakes.
"Why are you throwing that dumb thing here?"
"It gets bit."
"You haven't had a bite in a half hour."
"Yeah, but I remember getting a three pounder off that rock wall over there...back in 2016."

My new reel arrived yesterday. I pre-ordered it over a month ago. It's an Ark Gravity BFS reel. I paired it with a Ray Fishing 7 ft Tarantula finesse rod, and spooled it with 6lb. nanobraid and a 6lb. flourocarbon leader.

Did some BFS fishing at Otay this morning.  Caught 3 bass on a Mini Brushhog, and 3 large bluegill on a 2" jerkbait.  Fun mornin!

Went for a morning hike to celebrate my bday. Took home a couple presents. Got em on 3" drop shots and spinnerbaits. Invite yourself fishing.

I've been absolutely killing it at Murray. Fishing my BFS setup with a 1/16 oz Keitech Mono Spin jig paired with a Z-Man 2.5 inch TRD Crawz. Both in green pumpkin. I must have caught 20 keeper sized bass in my last 2 trips.

Nice job! You’re doing better than anyone I’ve talked to there in the last few weeks. Skunks and one fish or two fish is the best I’ve heard. Guessing small baits is the key to success. Thanks for sharing and tight lines. :-)
