Re: Cabo Redemption?
When I lived in Virginia , the Johnson silver minnow with an Uncle josh pork rind trailer was top shelf on the Weakfish / Trout . There are some replacement types available but you don't hear much about them . Otter tails come to mind . Might still be worth a shot . WR

Re: Cabo Redemption?
I've used them at local lakes with a spinner bait skirt and caught bass, not regularly. I imagine A strip of fish belly or a strip of squid could be beneficial in some instances for saltwater, or perhaps a gulp grub.

Re: Cabo Redemption?
You’re a wealth of knowledge Bill..Thanks for the input… What do you think about using them in the bays around eel grass or even in the surf around hard structure or kelp?…
Butch
They cast good and have a really good wobble . The action should work on just about any species . The weedless ...

Re: Cabo Redemption?
That's anticipation sounds neat. Take care of yourself, though,
I have a few of these and I use them a lot. I would buy again. They have little thumb hooks on the sleeve to keep them from creeping up, and with lightweight fishing gloves, when I use them, only the fingertips are exposed.

Re: Cabo Redemption?
I was redheaded, or "ginger," when it was a curse, not cool like it is now. The hooded part is for the face protection. I can wear a hat and sunscreen, but I have never found a product that protects my lips for very long. They burn easily. One more positive aspect of surf fishing on the left coast ...

Re: Mono County Fishing Information 🐟
So...
I will be doing a lot of day hikes around mammoth. At least one day on the San Joaquin.
Any of you mugs have any recommendations for day trips near Mammoth that don't involve a long drive to the trailhead?
I like throwing little lures in little creeks to catch little fish. Kinda like here ...

Furries and Bass, Just Another Pond Sesh
It was around 5:30 a.m. when The Gooch — yes, that’s what we call him, don’t ask — woke me up.
"It’s five in the morning, David. You better be in jail, or caught a 12#."
"Neither! Your buddy Jose just caught a four-pounder on that Megabass Karashi you keep threatening to throw but never do ...

Piru: The Lake That Gets No Love (But Gives It Anyway)
Let’s be real—when people talk about the "Big Three" lakes around here, Piru Lake is definitely the red-headed stepchild. Castaic? That place is a legend. Back in the '90s, when I was still learning the difference between a spinnerbait and a spoon, my dad and I would roll up with all the colors of ...

I realized something this week. I haven’t actually fun fished in a while. Like, just gone out to fish without a tournament hanging over my head like the cloud that follows Eeyore everywhere.

Re: Newport Harbor
Orange County seems to be very anti-fishing. In the last few years they took Float Tubing and Kayaking completely away from us in the freshwater lakes. We have plenty of water. Siphon, Rattlesnake, Oso, Laguna, Irvine, Peters Canyon, Santa Ana River Lakes. No Tubes or Kayaks. Now, vandals broke into ...

Re: Newport Harbor
It’s my “Back Yard”. You ever want to go, I’ve got an extra Hobie Float Tube. So much less walking! We launch at half tide, let the current float us along the docks, take 5 at the peak, let the current wash us back to the get out spot. Then we eat because there is no better food than after Tubing ...

Re: Newport Harbor
Ya Butch, you sit in a comfortable seat, out of the water, and cast to the most awesome spots, where you just know you re going to get bit. We don’t wear waders in the Summer, just a pair of old shoes and some strap on fins. Catch some fish, and leave when you are done. Don’t get me wrong, launching ...

Newport Surf
Hit the Newport Coastline this morning with my young friend Jake and his buddy Landon. We were to meet at the spot at 6 am. I got there early and filled a bait bucket with Sand Crabs with quite a few Softies, maybe due to the Full Moon period. I threw my first cast at 6 am and was on a nice Corbina ...

Newport Harbor 8/9
Hit the Harbor in my Float tube on the smaller of the two Tides today. Got in the water at 7 am across the Bay from the Coast Guard Dock. It started off slow, I kicked against an almost non existent incoming Tide down to the Big Public dock and hit a school of medium grade Sand Bass landing 6 on six ...
