Re: 1st Local Suf Trip In A While
Thanks guys...1st procedure done and good results (If you don't mind a 1/2 dollar size chunk removed from your shin. ) Two more... Worse thing is that the Dr. told me not to get it in the ocean for at least 2 weeks... The others shouldn't present as much of a problem, as they are higher on my body ...

Oktoberfest
Trick-or-treaters are gone and October is at the end. Wish I could fish as much as I did back in June but in all honesty October has been a decent month.
PB calico. This alone would make it a fine month. Got stuck twice when reeling in. I was able to un-stuck it by lower the tip of the rod and wait ...

Re: Oktoberfest
To wrap it up, I will echo the Halloween theme with a spooky-looking HM. I think it was due to a shark bite, rather than some nuclear mutation...
October is behind us. Let's see what November brings.
Tight lines!

Re: Ocean beach fishing
This time of year, mostly perch, an occasional yellow fin croaker possible. You're going to have morning neep tides that week so it's a crap shoot as to how good (or bad) the fishing might be. Neeps can be good for halibut but tough to get from open beach and better chances if you find a nice hole ...

Re: Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood
According to the buoy, this western swell has lowed the water 4 degrees in as many days. Can't wait for summer

Month of April
April is always nice as the water warms up enough to go barefoot in the wash. This month saw mostly small perch and some good sized croaker biting, although some baby leopard sharks came out to play in north county.

Re: Crystal Pier 2024
I fished from the pier to PB drive today 4 to 7:00 , good longshore trough where N and S current shoved into a rip out in front of tower 23 , 1 small butt released on a drop shot fluke . Saw 1 other fisherman digging crabs further south . Lots of terns working inside the stall areas . Would be ...

Re: 6/1 session
It's no skunk... Plus you got out... Red tide?
Butch
Went to the beach yesterday, didn't fish but the conditions were atrocious. Torrey Pines, Del Mar, Solana beach all had pretty profound red tide and awful lot of salad. Saw a few fishermen trying their luck but haven't seen anyone reeling any ...

Oceanside harbor area fishing
Since the harbor was dredged, I haven't had anything but palm sized perch hookups. In the fall/winter and early spring I was getting a lot of good fish out of there. Does it usually take awhile for things to pick up again after the finish the sand replenishment? I know all the sand gets dumped south ...

Pacific Beach Thursday morning 8/15/24
Lots of grass and kelp. I found areas that were more shallow with less kelp but lots of current, and deeper guts with loads of kelp churning around. It’s fishable with work, but after 15 minutes and no bites I broke off on a massive tangle of kelp and decided to do other things with my time.

Re: South Mission 8/16
Butch, the mussel I use is mussel meat. It's de-shelled & cooked. Sounds odd, I know but it works. You can get it fresh at some of the Asian seafood markets or frozen. I get mine in a 2 lb box frozen & break off a bunch into 10-12 or so, into small freezer bags. The fresh works well if you salt them ...

Re: Pier fishing info
Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach did have rental gear and bait the last time I was there….. It used to be very reasonably priced, but the new operators really raised the prices… Hopefully they reduced them to be more affordable…. I believe the pier is only open from sunrise to sunset, unless you are ...

Re: Corbina are still around
Man, I hope those are corbina
My fishing buddies are reporting that Corbina have been showing up from the Redondo Beach Pier to Palos Verdes the last week, or so. But like Butch, I haven't been able to get out.
