Re: Alternative to Lake Hodges?

Hey McFish, we went for the late afternoon/ evening session and didn’t get any action at all. I threw crankbaits, swimbaits, and Senkos. I don’t know if it was me, my float tube, or the fish, but I did see that another poster caught 6. Maybe he was out there in the morning or I don’t know how to ...

IV Bass fishing ( video)

A clip I shot a few years back with my son and grandson. Not too good but we managed some small ones( mixed small mouth and largies). Now that the weather has cooled down, hitting the canals out east is a nice alternative before putting those bass rigs away for the winter. https://youtu.be ...

I believe all but two were on top. I swim the boot tail flukes on the surface and The gunfish did its magic.

Re: Striper

Stripers are too rare in San Diego lakes to target them. Best two lakes where people target them are Skinner Lake and Diamond Valley Lake. Both an hour away from North County. Both lakes can be difficult too catch stripers though. Silverwood which is a lot further drive is pretty easy to catch them ...

Re: Striper

Now is a good time of year to chase Stripers at Lake Skinner. Get there early or late and look for fishing busting the surface on bait

Re: Striper

when DVL gets their trout stock in the next couple of weeks, you can shore pound larger topwater (8" Lunker Punker) baits for the stripers They usually push the trout up shallow early in the morning to pick them off.

Re: Striper

Silverwood docks anchovies and kastmasters were the best bet. But don't forget about Elsinore, plenty of shore access and wipers are just like stripers.

Re: giant bass pictures???

I glad to see that SDfish is still alive and well. Good to see so many of the seasoned anglers still posting. As some may know I am no longer in SD however I have an attachment to this thread.

Re: San V on top

Thanks for factoid to stir brains into remembering...
Can you believe the audacity of said ML to film two guys, clandestine, that were snagging bedding bass during a tournament and gluing scales back on to hide that fact??? Amazing.

Ultralight fishing at Otay

Today was ultralight day with a seven and a half foot Diawa Presso, and 1/16th oz ball head jigs. I paired the tiny jig heads with 2.5 inch mini swimbaits. I caught 6 nice bass in the the 2-3 pound range and a Crappie. So much fun on ultralight gear. So much so I am thinking of springing for a ...

Re: Ultralight fishing at Otay

Looks like a fun day. Its funny how we go in trends for fishing styles. I used to fish ultralight setups all the time (spinning and casting) and then went to heavy line stuff. I've recently transitioned back to mostly light action gear here in San Diego now.

San V report on 11/13/23

Hello all,

Headed out to San V with John W today. Got started around 0730, because it's cold and there's no hurry when it's windy in the morning. Plugged around most of the day mixing small hardbaits (me) and softbaits (John). Not a whole lot of activity. Did pick up an impressive bluegill that ...

Re: San V report on 11/13/23

Hi Mcfish,

I hadn't thought about it, but you might be right, it could be a hybrid redear with a bluegill, because those grow pretty fast and are stocky.

The busters still were a lot of fun, of course more fun if you catch them, but John and I were certainly amused by the chase.

That's a fatty...wonder if it's actually a Red Ear? The busters are very finicky right now, I'm not throwing anything over 2 1/2", and you mostly have to land the bait on their heads!

Re: Silverwood

Fish off the pay dock with split shot/fly lined FRESH cut sardines on 6-8 lb. to get the abundant yearling stripers. Limit is 10 with no size restriction. The mercury consumption warnings don't really apply to the small ones as they haven't lived long enough to accumulate harmful levels yet. One ...
