It’s actually a fun lake and the bass are pretty cooperative. Lots and lots of clones. With the bottom having lots of weeds/grass so the lighter the weight, the better you are if you use weights with plastics.
Free lining or wacky rigging a senko helps keep your worm above the weeds better. Of ...

Re: 7/24-Lake Miramar Dink-Fest
Seems typical for Mira Mar. I used to go there a lot, years ago. Always a challenge to find subtle structure in the weeds in the clear water. Usually used 4 lb test, splitshot reapers and finesse worms in Green Weenie to get them to eat. But I digress.

Re: Most fun and unusual baits for bass
Okay, so how come no one makes a ringneck snake lure?
These little beauties are natural forage for fish.
Don't believe me? Where do you think I got that one?

Re: Most fun and unusual baits for bass
So, way way back when I was still wet behind the ears and the Snagg Proof Frogs were not a thing, I used these fishing with my Grandfather;
Description is written below the photos.
Cool Snake photo! They make a snake topwater.

Re: 7/24-Lake Miramar Dink-Fest
I typically get bigger bass out of Miramar by power-shotting into the tullies. 15 pound test with a 3/4oz. weight, dropshot style with a 6" Roboworm (Margherita Mutilator). I've gotten some beautiful 2-4 pounders that come back dark because they just live in there eating things all day lol.

Re: Murray AM
New to the forum and happy to post about all the nothing I catch, mostly at Murray, haha.
Kinda sorta got into fishing with my son in 2020 when it was about the only thing going, desperate for any activity that took us out of the house. Have recently gotten back into it, maybe for the past 6-7 ...

Re: Most fun and unusual baits for bass
Two weeks ago I was at Barrett and saw a dead rabbit in the water. I realized why the big rat lures work right there.
But for me, consistently this crazy crawler is the strangest thing I use ( and variants ) and every week I get some fish to claim it.

My Favorite Topwater for years was a RedWing BlackBird Lure. Throw it next to a flooded tree and shake it. Hold on! Unfortunately I can no longer find them.it was made of Balsa Wood with real feathers.

San Vee
Went out to San Vee monday mainly to test out my motor after being fixed. I found the motor ran extremely well, but my fishing seemed to need the work now. I caught a couple pint sized dinks on d/s to avoid the skunk but I was throwing jigs all day or at least until it got to damn hot to fish. I ...

Re: Any bass lakes or reservoirs with rental boating? :/
Barrett and San Vicente, based on recent reports, looks like they're some of the top producing lakes this year. Otay is typically good, but I hear it's in a funky condition; will likely still produce but not ideal conditions. Most lakes have rentals in some form or other, whether boat or yak.

Re: Any bass lakes or reservoirs with rental boating? :/
I'd agree with the above comments, Barrett and San Vicente. Barrett, you could use almost anything and probably get a bass. San V seems to me, to be best done with finesse techniques. Dixon isn't bad during the week and I think it's cheaper for a boat there. I always fish there from the shore and I ...

Re: Any bass lakes or reservoirs with rental boating? :/
I hear Barret does only barbless hooks. All of the hooks I have are barbed. Is there a way to bypass or fix this without buying new ones? Also Lake Barret is very very expensive. I know you guys are talking about San Vicente as well, but is it as good or just as good as Barret?

8/2-Back to Lake Miramar
Last Monday when I was at Miramar I saw a few rumbles on the surface but had no topwater baits with me as I packed mostly worms and craw baits. A buddy also recently told me he caught a few on top this trip I packed a few topwater baits in my kayak. It was a little foggy when I arrived and headed ...
