5/27- SD River

Talked to a buddy last night and he said the fishing at the river sucks lately, but stubborn me wanted to give it a try. Arrived kind of late morning and did not see one other fishermen. After 2 3/4 hours of not one bite, I can see why. Tried everything from jerk to crank baits, then even to ...

Re: Victory at Sea...but fish liked it!

No Bull! Well, a couple! But the wind was serious! Only the second fired up school I have encountered! Very fun!

Flipping a Flooded Forrest for GIANT Bass (video)

Went back to the well at my current favorite lake in San Diego County looking to take advantage of the hot springtime bite that has been going on. The video is compilation of my last 2 trips out there, one in the boat and one walking and wading. Had 7-8 fish per trip with plenty of 2-4lb footballs ...

Re: I went for the upgrades!

Line size, hook size and bait is a slippery slope =D I definitely think you get more bites on lighter line and smaller hooks. When tuna fishing you sometime need to go down to a size 4 bait hook on a 5 or 6 in sardine to get bit. Then you risk pulling the hook after you bit.

All nice looking ...

Re: 6/7-Return to D & K Lake

Braid vs rock > rock usually comes out victorious. Especially on a fish that has shoulders.

The only lake in SD I’ve lost lures easier than Sutherland is Wohlford. Both are tackle graveyards.
I dunno. I think I have lost more lures in Hodges than any other lake.

Minnesota Madness 2025

Back at Pelican Lake in northern Minnesota for my annual trip. Weather is tough at times with wind and rain. Still getting some nice chunks on jigs, senkos, drop shot and my trusty craw bait. Not much action as yet for smallies though and too windy for topwater so far. We really can’t complain when ...

Re: 6/7-Return to D & K Lake

I’m with TaBASSco, I’m sure I’ve lost way more lures at Hodges than any other lake, especially before braid I used mono only.

Minnesota Chunks

Couple nice four pound plus LMB chunks from Pelican Lake, Minnesota. Only disappointment of the trip is the lack of nice smallies that we got in previous years. Had a lot of fun the last two evenings on topwater action with the rat and the grasshopper.

Re: Bank fishing for bass

Thanks, Everyone, for your replies. I went out to Miramar for a couple of hours recently and fished from the bank not far from the launching ramp. I ended up with two energetic fish, both somewhere in 1-2 lbs range. I enjoyed it and will be back, and will also be giving other lakes mentioned here a ...

Re: Bank fishing for bass

I used to live near lake Hodges, and have had plenty of shore fishing success there. Like others have said, plastics work great. Where ever you go look for cover such as deadfall and stickups or weeds and any visible structure, rockpile lines that lead into the water, or rocky points.

6/16-Miramar Magic

Needed to try something different and headed up to Lake Miramar with my kayak this morning. It was foggy for a bit and it may be a little soon for topwater as I talked to a local who seems to be there almost every time I go there.
I did get a bass on a small jerkbait, but after a while of trying ...

Re: 6/16-Miramar Magic

I’ve had a similar experience only in the bay. I had a brand new set up not real expensive like Vinnys but still brand new. First time used. I laid it down to bait another rod I looked up, my rod was in the water tried to net it, couldn’t get it, but I could see that a stingray had taken my rod ...

Re: 6/16-Miramar Magic

Thanks for the heads up on Miramar Vinny.
Went up there today and ended up with 20+ bass. Nothing big but a few good chunks mixed in. Water was way high so no problem launching.

Sweet!!!
It’s a fun lake. I remember my father and me fishing it almost every weekend many many many decades ago ...
