Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....
I love El Cap as a lake, but avoid it due to the wind. Back when I was younger it did not bother me as much. Oh how things change=)
Too bad about the bigger one coming off. That's what keeps up going back....next time.
I remember the days even decades ago fishing in my buddies aluminum bass ...

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....
I have two anchors for my Kayak. One is a folding Grapnel, with a small length of chain for abrasion resistance. It is very light weight and effective in most situations.
The other is homemade. It is a 12 inch length of 1 1/2” galvanized pipe filled with sand and capped on each end with a hole ...

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....
Grapnel with about 3 foot of light chain. I forget the size of both the anchor and chain but it was pretty small. Chain is key but you can’t drop it straight down because it it pile on the anchor and it won’t set. Always drop it in a drift or pedaling away as you are letting it out. Yank on it to ...

6/6- Return to SD River
It's been about a month since I fished the SD River. A buddy who fishes the river often told me last night that he has caught only
one bass after 3 trips and his buddy got skunked yesterday. I figured what the heck.. and so for a change of pace I decided to fish
it for a few hours this morning ...

I’m still a bass fisherman.
Just checking if I still can catch some bass. Caught 3 and missed a couple on the jump. One of the 18” bass gonna serve as someone else meal since the hook is too deep. The weed and algae is everywhere, small bluegill hangout shallow in morning. Saw a few bass chasing bluegill along shoreline.

Murray and Hodges
16 bass between Hodges on Wed. and Murray on Fri. all on this new little crankbait I just got that's about the size of my thumb. It's an Evergreen PC-5 in Baby Bluegill color. Dives quickly to 10 feet and runs perfectly true out of the box. It's a bit pricey at $15, but I can't argue with the ...

Re: Murray and Hodges
Results is always the key and that little bait already proved and paid for itself with the bass action you got. You have really been having a lot of fun out there with that light tackle and the bass like it too!

Re: Ouch...that hurt!
That happened to me too many times and is exactly the reason I fish 20 Braid and 15 Flouro leader. Case in point. I set the hook on a hard tap yesterday and was on a fish for 20 minutes praying it was a non- jumping Bass. It towed my Tube slowly 100 yards out into the Lake. You already know it was a ...

Otay 6/9
Arrived at Otay just as they opened the gate, and launched my tube from North Point. No sooner had I kicked out than the bass started busting all around me.
Caught my first 5 on a topwater walking bait. Then switched over to my little deep diving crankbait. Caught 11 more bass and 8 really large ...

Minnesota Madness 2024
Back here at Pelican Lake in northern Minnesota with my buddy Scott for our annual angling extravaganza. The first day started out cold and windy but the afternoon was nice along with the fishing. We got about 45 largemouths and smallmouths between us with most of them nice three pound chunks ...

Re: Minnesota Madness 2024
Always look forward to your annual Minnesota trip reports Big C. Those are some really healthy bass and I could see why you head back there each year to fish Pelican Lake. Judging from those pics of you guys and those bass, it looks like you are having a great time. Keep on catching them and look ...

Going to those pristine, unpressured lakes is just plain cheating! Says a very jealous, frustrated Socal fisher.

6/11-Murray setback/still fished
Rigged up a number of rods with baits and got my boat ready for a morning adventure to Murray. Packed my lunch and drinks and I
was on my way. I was daydreaming hoping for some top water action and then suddenly reality hit. OMG!... I totally spaced and

6/13- Murray Madness
After driving up to find Murray closed on Tuesday, I decided to give it a go this morning.
Seeing that I already caught 2 big catfish in May fishing for bass, I somehow managed to catch another catfish that gobbled down my Texas rigged brush hog. I thought at first it was a nice bass for about 20 ...

Re: Filamentous Algae
Great question. I will be watching this thread as its full on algae these days. I try to go the weightless or minimal weight route but just about every unbit cast is a clean job. Topwater or busters higher in the water column solves the problem if you are doing that, but I’m usually not unless there ...

D&K 6/14
Took my oldest son float tubing at D&K. Awesome day. My son is just now getting the fishing bug at 35....but he's still really new to it.
He ended up with 7 and I caught 16. Several were caught on walking topwater baits and poppers, a few on a crankbait. After the topwater action slowed, the rest ...
