Another surprise was the water temp up 3 degrees from last Wednesday.

Fumbling around at home I did not get on the water till around 8:45.I tossed a few swim baits near the ramp and shoreline but it already started to warm ...

Yeah one of the reasons I have kinda avoided fishing deep is the whole fizzing thing. I have read about how to do it, but the idea kinda freaks me out a bit. I didn't have as good of a day as Vinny yesterday, but I did find a few chunkers hanging out between 15 and 20 feet.

I can feel what you are saying about BFS gear and big fish. This last Wed on opening day at hodges i was coming back from the dam and all i had was a evergreen pc5 tied onto my bfs rod so i figured what the hell and started a slow troll along the del dios hwy side of lake. About 5 min into my ride ...

We do it as a sport, so why not battle them with under size gear.

Moose, we had the same experience at Otay yesterday. There were 4 of us and we were all doing different things. It just wasn't a fishy day.


Feel your pain. Went out three times end of Dec., 1/2 day each. I got a blow up at El Cap, a top water catch which got off halfway to the boat at Otay ...

Well I always say a plan is a list of things that won't happen. Was thinking about going to Hodges but on the way, went to El Cap instead. It's a commitment, because it's an hour away versus 10 minutes.

It was a good move. Got out at about 0700, and the water was 54F with a light wind ...

At what depth do you need to fizz a bass? I don't livewell them and always release after i catch. Havent ever seen any go belly up even the ones i mark at 45ft-50ft. Im all about respecting our resource btw. I dont even net or flip bass to preserve their slime coat. I lip them unhook and release.
