Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27

Up until yesterday Murray appeared slow. I really didn't see anyone killing it! Those kids, either by design or happenstance, really stumbled on THE technique. I was happy for them and it was good to see someone really killing it out there!

Not really knowing anything about ice jigs I just ordered ...

Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27

Rapala Jigging Rap chrome/blue, 5/8 - 7/8 oz was extremely popular with the bass guys for years, many years ago. With live forward-facing sonar (FFS), its nuts. Bass fishing can be easier and faster than summer because they'll be all bunched up together in one spot on the shad schools. They can ...

Good day at Otay 12/29

Had a great time at Otay today. Final count was 11 fish total, all of them were over 3lbs, with a couple just shy of 5. I put in at the ramp and caught a few along the tulies as I headed to Otay arm. I caught the majority of them working among the trees at the tip of the arm. Every fish was on a ...

What’s the water level at?
Not the lowest I've seen but considerably down from last summer levels.

Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27

Evidently some guys got upset that I shared this story and bait. They told VinnyBass to talk to me about it. Well sorry if I offended anyone, but I thought this site was about sharing catches, baits, techniques that work etc... I mean I always appreciate hearing from you guys regarding what's ...

Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27

Jigging Rap was introduced in 1961. I love it when an old timey nearly forgotten lure kicks butt of new lures.

Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27

Thanks guys, yeah I thought it was kind of a silly thing to get worked up over. I share baits and techniques that I am having success with all the time. I am fortunate to be retired and fish quite a bit. A lot of guys get much more limited opportunities, so if I can share anything that's been ...

The one that got away 1/9

Those who know me are probably aware that I have never caught a double digit bass. Oh I've flirted with it, with my PB being a 9.8, but nope, after 41 years of SCAL bass fishing, I've never managed to pull that one off. In 2024 my best was an 8 pounder at Hodges. I caught a bunch over five with a ...

Re: The one that got away 1/9

On another note, I've already ordered my replacement BFS rod. It's a Cashion Icon series purchased directly from the manufacturer. I can't wait to try it out. Now I have my eye on that new Bates Hundo BFS reel....looks sweet!

Re: The one that got away 1/9

Haha yeah it was honestly a lot of fun and exciting. I'm not really too upset, just wish I could have got a picture lol. It was a lot of fish on really pretty light line. What amazed me the most to tell the truth was that the rod and leader broke before I straightened the hook in that tiny 1/8 oz ...

Otay 1/12

5 clones around 1.5 pounds each. One decent bass (pictured). All the little ones came courtesy of a 2" bluegill colored crankbait. The larger one hit a white and pearl chatterbait.

Pretty slow day but still fun.

The Captain 1/14

I woke to a text yesterday from VinnyBass reminding me that it was the second Tuesday of the month and Murray was closed. Lucky thing too or that's inevitably where I would have headed. I pivoted and decided to head to El Capitan instead.

I dropped the boys off at school in La Mesa and headed for ...

Re: Murray: Has not been exciting

For me Vinny it's been hit or miss lately at Murray. Thursday I caught 7 clones as we discussed. Yesterday I threw the same lures in the same places and caught 3 drinks in 4 hours. Go figure.

it was actually nice out early then the wind picked up and I about froze my eggs off lol. Anyway it was ...

Re: You should have been here yesterday!

You know the day spent at Otay was slow but the company of Chris Pourboy Brandt made the trip memorable and worthwhile. That holds true for all of the forum guys I've had the pleasure to meet in person.

Even though Murray has been slow I've landed a few, and it's always good to see Kirk and Vinny ...
