Re: I'm so full of hope and dread I may have to stop fishing.

My poor attempt at humor...sorry all! Man it was great to be back on the water!

Re: 10/25-Not Lake Murray

I knew it! LMB fishing in our local waters is certainly more challenging than bay fishing on most days. I appreciate those that have the patience and knowledge to reap the rewards. Spotties do have sharper teeth though!

And some pretty vicious fins too!

I mainlined me some nature 10/24-25

I fed my addiction Thursday and Friday at Murray. Thursday was a bit slower as I spent the day trying to re-establish a pattern. Ended up with a couple of about 3 lb. clones.

Friday started off great with 3 nice popper fish - casting toward the boat dock, then soon devolved into a dink-fest. I ...

Fatties at Otay 10/30

Only 5 fish on the day but all of them were fat and healthy. The biggest weighed 6.1 so took over the 5.6 Murray fish of last month for my second biggest of the year. The bass were actually busting down by the buoy line and I threw a bunch of TW baits at them but no takers. So I switched to a jig ...

Re: Fatties at Otay 10/30

I was using a Cashion rod which has a little more backbone than my Dobyns Sierra 701c. For jigs I really like Missile Bait's Ike's mini jigs in 1/8 for BFS. I have a lot of success pairing it with a 2.75" Yum Craw Chunk. They are cheap, still reasonably durable, and have a great action.

Re: Fatties at Otay 10/30

Ain’t nothing wrong with jig fish. Nothing beats that pure contact hook set. Not sure what it’s like on a bfs…

To be honest, there's nothing else quite like it. Most of my biggest fish this year are BFS jig fishing, and fighting quality fish on a BFS setup is a complete rush! By it's very ...

Re: Fatties at Otay 10/30

Great job out there by the way. And between you and Early Release working me in that direction I just picked up my first BFS setup. I remember trying yours at Hodges that day for the first time. I did pick up a few micro jigs too. I’m excited to get my first fish on it! I tried this week at Hodges ...

Productive bait Murray 11/1

I found another versatile BFS bait that has been working well for me. Today I Caught several bass and bluegill on a Shimano World Crank 73F. The best bass was just over 4lbs.

It's an interesting bait, sort of a cross between a crank and jerk bait. It suspends so it can be worked like a jerk bait ...

Productive day 11/7

Today was a pretty good day at Murray! It was great catching up with VinnyBass ! I caught 8 bass and 5 bluegill on the morning. The bass were all on jigs and Senkos, and the bluegill all on a little 2.5" crankbait. I almost didn't go because of wind warnings but glad 8 decided to... In reality, the ...

Re: Almost mid November…

I fished there yesterday and had the same question about the platforms? The water level is way down from the last time I was there. I was only there about 3 hours but did manage 3 topwater and a couple of crankbait fish, although all were on the small side.

Great job Michael! Keep those posts ...

Lake Murray News 11/14

It was a relatively slow day at the Murr, but I did manage 4 bucketmouths with the one pictured being the largest at 3.7.

But the news is that the lake is supposed to get its first trout stock of the year at the end of next week (per the guy in the tackle shop). So all you big swim bait guys better ...

Re: Lake Murray News 11/14

These days my stoutest rod is a Lews custom 7' medium heavy speed stick. I have also have 1 medium, 1 medium light, 1 light, and 1 ultralight. Inevitably I find myself using the 3 lightest rods the most, all of which have Ark Gravity BFS reels on them.

After having fished with lighter tackle so ...

Re: Lake Murray News 11/14

I personally think it's all ok. Different strokes for different folks. Truthfully I haven't seen anyone push any kids or families out of the way. In fact 99.9% of the time I have seen people help each other out. Especially when it comes to kids.

I think anglers overall are a pretty kind and ...
