Decent topwater bite early this morning at the Murr. It was overcast for the first hour and they were busting everywhere! I managed 7 early then the sun burned off the fog and everything basically stopped. Caught 4 more out deeper after the sun then moved toward shore.
I am a bit disappointed ...

Re: Topwater at Murray 8/15
Was Larry the guy in the White boat? Yeah there for a while they were turning the surface into a playground! Mostly smaller clones like in the pictures, but you know me, I was throwing stuff on my beloved BFS gear so the fights were still fun!

Re: 8/14-Miramar Morning
Otay is only open Wed, Sat & Sun, but I gotta say....I'm with CorsoEnthusiast on the quality of that lake When it comes to Bass fishing.
It's the only lake that has rivaled Barrett for the numbers of bass I have caught, and the size/quality of fish is usually much better on average. Similar to the ...

Re: 8/16-Lake near my house
You did better than me! I got 3 gunfish topwater clones and a couple of real dinks on a tiny popper. It was a tough one for me. Maybe I need spoon and blade lessons haha.
It was great to see you out there as always buddy.

Re: The Murr....and a couple old guys
Bet there was a lot of good natured smack talk out there.
Some good teasing was definitely going on! I think Vinny put in a couple more hours than he planned..trying to tie up the score! I think the heat was starting to make us a little wacky! I always learn some things when fishing with the ...

Re: The Murr....and a couple old guys
I had a decent morning yesterday at the Murr with all 6 fish coming courtesy of small 1/8 oz. Z-Man chatterbaits.

Murray Topwater 8/22 and 8/23
Vinny VinnyBass was lamenting his inability to catch any topwater bass at Murray on hard baits last week. I have been able to pull a few, but I think the key is really downsizing your baits, and working them quite fast across the surface. Almost skipping them. The fish on top seem to be chasing ...

Re: Murray Topwater 8/22 and 8/23
Haha VinnyBass as I said I think you pull in way more fish than me on a regular basis so feel free to ignore me! In fact I just got my first Damiki blade bait from TW so I can begin to learn some of your deeper water tactics.

Agreed keep them coming Vinny!KillinTime wrote: Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:44 pm Not tired to the Murray reports. Keep them coming!
I like the gun fish for down sizing the top hard baits. I think it's the 75mm. I know bait makers are going much smaller now, but I'm out of the loop=)

Tues 8/27
Took my good friend Randy (who is still new to fishing) out float tubing at Murray, hoping to get him introduced to some topwater action. He was really jazzed as he landed his first three topwater bass, one of which went 4.3 lbs. Sadly no picture though as he dropped it taking it off the scale.

Re: Tues 8/27
Well the pattern changed. I went back on Thursday and couldn't buy a jig bite of any kind lol. I did pick up a couple out deep on a 5" paddle tail fished on a Damiki jig head. Basically in 20-30 feed of water bouncing/hopping it along the bottom. I really need to learn how to fish a swim jig. I fish ...

Re: 8/30-SD River am
Nice job Vinny. You're always on fish brother. Murray has been kinda up and down for me over the last week, so I think you made the right call for sure!

Re: Because yes
I keep maybe 1 out of every 100 bass I catch but I don't feel guilty about it either when I do. I like em beer battered or on the smoker. I just really prefer the taste of filet sized bluegill or crappie so if I am fishing for dinner that's what I'm usually targeting.

Re: 8/30-SD River am
I still throw them. I've cleaned up on tiny brushhogs and a pegged 1/16 oz bullet weight. I Texas rig them on a #2 light wire hook and throw them on my BFS gear. I think Vinny and McFish have seen me have success with that setup. I've even caught a couple of 4 pounders that way which is an absolute ...

Otay 9/4
On the lake by 6 and off again by 10'30 because it got hot!
I launched at North Point and headed Southwest. Caught a couple on topwaters but there really weren't too many busting that way. I picked up a couple more swimming a small jig with a Keitech fat impact for a trailer.

Actually there were a couple dozen boats out. Probably a dozen kayaks, and 3 or 4 other float tubers besides us.VinnyBass wrote: Thu Sep 05, 2024 7:15 pm Just out of curiosity, was it crowded out there in this type of heat?

Murray 9/6
The topwater bite went off for a couple of hours today at Murray. Pulled in 8, all of them looked about the same. Nothing huge but still a ton of fun.
On a side note, I threw numerous topwater baits; poppers, walking baits, and even a fluke, and the only thing I could get them to hit was a small ...
