Re: What is a trophy panfish?

American Fisheries Society classifies nearly all sportfish into length indices that designate Stock, Quality, Preferred, Memorable and Trophy categories.
Lengths are used because they are generally less variable than weights (fish may lose weight but not length)
The lengths (in mm) for various ...

Re: anglers need to hear and understand this...

Pop’n size is estimated by using multiple mark/recapture sampling with Schnabel and Shumacher/Eschmeyer statistical analysis

Fish size is measured by total length and weight. These measures are then used to calculate things like Proportional Stock Distribution and Relative Weights to determine ...

Re: anglers need to hear and understand this...

The population estimates are 95% confidence intervals. So basically, there is a 95% chance the actual population is within the upper and lower bounds of the confidence interval. For example, this last spring we collected and marked 3,437 LMB larger than 12" from Lake Skinner over 4 laps around the ...

Re: anglers need to hear and understand this...

Sometimes we forget that the goal of DFW isn't to produce a few large fish, but rather a sustainable population, they don't care if there are 1 million 1lb bass, they actually prefer that to there being 500,000 2lb bass, because that's 2x as many bass so that's better right? obviously the dynamic ...

Re: Bass Council Top 6 at El Cap (bad look)

So the tournament didn't have someone on site to fizz bass released in the tournament? That violates the conditions of their permit. Do you have photos or video of this incident? I can rectify this problem real quick...

Re: Bass Council Top 6 at El Cap (bad look)

Obviously all you bleeding hearts were so busy crying over the couple floaters and trying to save them, you missed the fact there was a DFW agent on site long before the teams ever made it back to the dock. Ethics and morals aside, I have to say it’s sort of ironic that we’ve recently been ...

Re: Anyone ever fish Olivenhain Res?

FIshed it with the shock boat shortly after it was filled. We determined it was mostly silverside, bluegill and green sunfish. We went to Hodges a couple weeks later and relocated about 50-60 FLMB into Olivenhein to balance the ecosystem.

Re: Otay news concerning closing again.

Gotfish? wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 5:53 am Where are those quagga mussels when we need them? I thought they were supposed to suck up all the nutrients and algae.

Mussels are about as lazy as a creature can get.
Quaggas (and soon to be golden mussels) actually make cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) blooms worse.

Re: Tilapia in SoCal lake?

Re: Skinny bass

Pull the current C&R only. no live bait regulations. Period.

Install the Statewide 12 inch/5 fish bag limit so anglers can help manage the fishery properly through harvest. Less starving fish that eat discarded plastics because it's an easier "meal". The lake is only open 3 days a week 5 months out ...
