Re: First wild trout

Sounded like you had a good time up there. Surprised there's still so much snow pack, but we were at about 200% this year from the rains.

Mission Bay 7/2

Did a brief 6 hour session this overcast Sunday without much todo. This was a break-in trip for the new SUP yak and it preformed well. Started off at the Ski Beach Boat Launch and fished my way (regrettably against an incoming tide) from Dana to Quivira without a bite. Eel grass is heavy around Dana...

Perhaps a signal light or two will increase the visibility

Re: Where can I find Uni Butter?

The Dana Landing shop should carry some if I'm not mistaken. Call to confirm, I might be misremembering.

7/9 Whoever smelt it

Did an early morning session from 0630-1130; dock hopping Bayfront Park. Had a nice overcast day and slightly more wind than I prefer. There were absolutely no spotties to be found, but fortunately the day didn't end in a skunk. Two for the session—a needlefish (which I was a little surprised by) an...

Re: Sad Day

Hope you are still able to find some way to get your line wet from time to time. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Re: Mission Bay 7/2

There are very few options for using an SUP on lakes in San Diego. SUPs are allowed at Lake Hodges and San Vicente. San V has haul-ass SKI BOATS everywhere, wake-boat big wakes, not to mention the bass boaters on our lakes that like to drive 70 mph everywhere. It can be very scary even in a kayak o...

Re: Coronado Ferry Landing need advice....

That has just about always been my go-to pier setup. The ferry landing is tight on shoulder room as well, so soaking will probably be a much more enjoyable time for the group.

7/23 MB South Shores

A 0530 launch turned into a 0730 launch because I was dreaming about fishing instead of actually fishing; the bite was better in my sleep. It was an overcast morning with the fiesta island beach filling up fast. The sun looked like it wanted to come through, but just an hour later we got some scatte...

Re: Fishing San Diego Bay - Tips & Tricks

Thanks for posting this. The San Diego bay images look like they might be lost to the ether. His Mission Bay article was posted on a different site and is recoverable. It even includes a great pdf of the bay with all the points articulated. https://surffishingsocalsd.com/bay-fishing-the-ins-and-outs...

Re: Any bass lakes or reservoirs with rental boating? :/

Barrett and San Vicente, based on recent reports, looks like they're some of the top producing lakes this year. Otay is typically good, but I hear it's in a funky condition; will likely still produce but not ideal conditions. Most lakes have rentals in some form or other, whether boat or yak. Best o...

Re: Best Wind Direction ?

The way I learned (which could very well be wrong) is to fish the wind at your front, or blowing towards you. The reason being is that the top water current will blow any forage towards you and any fish looking for a meal will follow that forage.

Re: Best Wind Direction ?

Its always interesting to see these types of responses and learn that I'm doing things the opposite of the correct way almost every time, haha. No wonder I have such little luck. I've always cast with the wind, with the thought process being my bait would naturally move/float on its own and not nee...

Re: Cuyamaca State Park Fishing

A few years back I saw some people pull out trout from Sweet Water River in the Green Valley area, so they're out there. Just need to find the right pool. Not sure how much water is running through it right now. I'm planning for some camping as Paso the week after next. If Green Valley is open I'll ...
