Re: July Tickets

It's a stupid thing to do. I guess we aren't a demographic that they care about. If I could vote in San Diego, I'd be sure to vote against every one of them.

Re: July Tickets

I wonder if the profit margin for Wednesdays during the hot months no longer are acceptable enough to keep it open during that time.

I thought I read here that Wednesdays during those months you can practically walk in and get a ticket at the gate.

Re: July Tickets

Closing on Wednesday’s will save the county a whole $200 a week, what a joke.

Maybe the savings will go towards maintaining beach fire pits and bathrooms at Balboa Park…oh wait.

June 22 Barrett Report

Well...off I went for my annual (most years there are 2 of them) trip to Barrett. This time I was alone and trying my 2nd ever outing on the float tube. BLUF: I don't think I will do it again...

But...I did catch some fish...nothing big, a couple close to 3 lbs and a few dinks, but most were ...

Yahoo Parking

To the two yahoo’s that parked side by side just past the dock and wiped out yak launching and at least 3 more spaces to park and enjoy that lower beach area, pull your heads out and think of others. I don’t usually park there either, it was just simply a selfish bonehead move. Ok, rant over.

Skinny bass

While I think the lack of the shad’s for whatever reasons (maybe die-off) or water conditions may attribute to the thinness of most of the bass being caught this year, I can’t help to think that these fishes are suffering from the ability to get all of the plastics out of their gut system.

I think ...

Re: Skinny bass

To add to my own above comments, maybe allowing nothing but live natural baits, such as, crickets and earthworms and the likes with ZERO plastics NOT allowed for the first one or two or three months, hard baits allowed.

Barbless hooks are a MUST.

I say allow DFG to inspect all boaters and ...

Re: Skinny bass

Seeing as how I'm not an aquatic biologist and have been known to be full of shit occasionally, I'll add my two cents here. I feel like the fact that you can have 50, 60, and even 100 bass days out here shows that there are plenty of fish in the lake so maybe the balance of forage to fish is off ...

Re: Skinny bass

Any skinny bass I caught early and mid season were tight to the bank. During the same trips, all the healthy and heavier bass were in deeper water. I focused a majority of my fishing in deeper water and secondary points-none of those areas produced any sick or skinny fish. I think being a catch and ...

Re: Skinny bass

As Dfishing mentioned, the senko’s swells so imagine it swelling up inside their gut and making it even harder to expel it out plus the salt’s that inside the senko’s.

Yes fishing with live bait may result in more gut hooked fish but hope the vast majority of the fisherman knows how to safely ...

Re: Skinny bass

Rippin innards out isn’t gonna hurt. All those bass die eventually. Theres been a few modern studies that show catch and release hurt bass fisheries. Especially for size. Just imagine how many bass are in Barrett and every spawn (which can be multiple times), how many more are introduced, even ...

Barrett Season Wrap — Thanks Everyone!

Hard to believe the season’s already over. This was our third year of bass fishing, and it all started with our first trip to Barrett. Funny enough, I think the fishing was actually better in 2023 and 2024 than it was this year, but my numbers tell a different story. First season I was averaging ...
