Re: Mission Beach 1/2 (peak low tide)

Based on my very limited surf reading I feel MB and pb are very uniform. At least in comparison to other beaches I go to so it doesn't surprise me to hear that it's flat when exposed

Re: Mission Beach 1/2 (peak low tide)

Nice to get out with your son.. Also cool to “see” the structure… I only fish those beaches in the late spring (Memorial Day weekend), and usually find some decent structure… Maybe the spring storms sculpt the beach more than the early season storms..

Re: Mission Beach 1/2 (peak low tide)

Have walked PB down to the MB jetty many times during these king tide periods in past winters to find the same beach topography conditions . . . generally flat as a board. But, you can find some exposed inner & outer trough areas to target during normal high tide periods. Got to agree with Butch ...

Re: Mission Beach 1/2 (peak low tide)

When I finish Mission Beach I usually look for rip currents and white water. Seem to have better luck.

Re: Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

I really like this post. I wanted to get my son into fishing and I knew that taking him to freshwater would most likely result in skunk unless use bait. I don't like bait because of the smell, the cost, and the guy hooked fish. I also learned to spin fish in the surf this year. My son caught many ...

Re: Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Great post. Just moved here last spring. Probably got to fish the surf in May or June. This site… the members have been so awesome to help this newbie. I thought it was going to be easy after my 1st or 2nd trip out I caught a legal hali. No more legal since. Caught only 2 more hali after that ...

Re: Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Fish the inlets(River mouths) at dead low or high Tide for those elusive Halibut. Use at least a 5 inch white Swimbait to discourage the “Potato Chips”. It’s all about the Tide and the bite window is short most of the time, sometimes it never slows down.

Re: North County trips.

I went to Terramar. I got 1 BSP. An SFC swam up a few feet from me. It was at least a foot and a half long.

Re: Mission Beach 1/10

Up here in the South Bay, I was catching mostly "aquariam-size" perch over the fall. I tried different beaches, but it was always the same result. We should have some pretty good fishing when summer rolls around. Hopefully, the same will hold true for your neck of the woods, Jwacky. In the meantime ...

Re: North County trips.

Swimming or Floating is the catch . Have seen multiple citations given for standing and spearing Corbina at TP State Beach . The guys had said " we do it all the time " and the officer said they were lucky , he wouldn't confiscate gear. He did however confiscate the fish the people had . I have done ...

I like the cold months less dodging drifting swimmers. And I love when the water temp is higher than the air feels like a footbath

Great Post! They only thing I can add is "time on the water". Nothing beats time on the water for learning by trial and error. Plus, when you have bad days that means (from a probability prospective) that you'll have just that many good days to come! Thanks for spreading the passion!

1/22 L/C Mission Beach

I never fished a Lucky Craft lure before, so I decided to dedicate this morning to it. Got six Perch all a good size. 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.. was a bit chilly down there. No grass or seaweed. The waves were getting bigger. It's hard to believe a Perch can eat a bait that size.

Re: North County trips.

I went yesterday for the 1st outing this year. Hit the beach at 1:30, right a low tide. Nothing until about 2:15, not even a hit. Used Battlestar , then LC until about 2:30. Took 20 min refreshment break. Switched to gulp bloodworm, a couple of hits, nothing big. Switched to camo gulps about 3:10 ...
