Point Loma trip last weekend. Bahhhhh
We mostly fished the kelp at high tide with plastics, loaded up on grumpys in the bay afterward too. Total we got some small calicos, 1 legal sandbass, couple grass rockfish, and the kicker sheep.

Big ones!
Went out on the Old Glory and it was super fun...we went all the way to Tanner on an overnight boat (big thanks to the Captain). Got there about an hour after first light and there were 30+ boats there already on anchor. we did the same and in short order I hooked (and subsequently landed) a BFT ...

Triton Lobster
My son is out for the weekend from college, instead of meeting him for dinner, I like to spend the day outside fishing. We tried something new in lobster fishing. We did a noon to midnight on the Triton out of La Harbor, a half day fishing and half day lobster at Catalina Island. Since its lobster ...

Rocky Shorelines - Calico Bass May 22
Walked down to a favorite beach spot to fish a weighted weedless swimbait (shown) along the sand/rock shoreline here, with much smaller surf today.
The recent south swells have migrated tons of sand north on my beach, and have unburied the local acres of eel grass - which is all dead and drifting ...

Corbina!
Biggest one for me.
4lbs 22".
Took my grandson one morning. Brought the ligth weight for him and a bigger one for me.
Plan was to set up a rod holder and soak some squid while I help him manage the smaller one.
After about 2 minutes he was not wanting to be the patient fisherman. So I decided to ...

1st Local Suf Trip In A While
I have missed fishing the local beaches lately, so I made a quick trip to Seal Beach with a few blood worms... There was a lot of eel grass to contend with, but did manage a decent corbina and calico... A small corb and two dink sand bass... Nothing huge but a fun day... And I managed to get that ...

TP Halibut 11/5/23
I was up early because of the time change. I checked the cams on Surfline and Torrey Pines looked very inviting. I fished the south of the side lagoon entrance around Tower 4. I read the beach and found a channel that was leading out from the shore. Around the channel there was a nice drop off and ...

The rain stopped for a couple hours
...and I gave it shot. Water was murky, especially close to city water runoffs. I walked about half a mile away. The water still had a brown-ish hue but at least no weird smells. Still not great condition but it could start raining any minute so what's the heck, just cast.

First post is a toad!
Hey everyone, first time posting here. Been trying to post this for a while but can't seem to find time until now. Went out to Coronado last Sunday for a little sunset fishing. Made about 10 cast using lucky craft before this huge toad decide to try it out. This is my first year using lucky craft ...

RAT Beach Corbina
I found 4 nice soft shells this morning and converted all 4 to corbina.
It is amazing how the corbina at my local beaches can tell the difference between hard and soft shell crabs. I use straight 8lb mono, so they don't seem to be line shy. My fishing buddies and I joke that they are "crab snobs ...

5/12 session
Conditions were pretty nice so went for an afternoon session on Sunday. Salad was minimal so I tried soft plastics and luckycraft but there were no takers. Switched bait fishing with shrimp and got a short sand bass, a perch and bunch of leopard sharks.

Re: Pacific Beach Sand Crabs & Salad
Did a gray light minus tide session 10 days ago straight out from PB Drive. That area seems to always have a good inner trough & some good size holes but the kelp & grass were real bad that day, barely fishable & no sand crabs. Made a move south to Mission near Belmont Park. Much better conditions ...

North County SD. New species for me.
The surf has been pretty rough the past few days and chock-full of salad. I've been trying different spots in north county, with mixed success, so I decided to circle back to this year's honey hole, and it produced from the first cast. I landed my first ever black surfperch. Both of them put up a ...

A Calamity of Errors....
....with one nice fish.
That pretty much sums up my evening on the sand.
During the summer, we go to the beach as a family every Friday afternoon with a group of other families. It's mostly just hanging out, but I always bring a rod or two so I can toss a few casts when the opportunity presents ...

Surf Barracuda - Labor Day 2024
On Labor Day sunset, I caught a legal barracuda from the surf, 28 inches, on a t-rigged white fluke in the La Jolla area.
I caught a short one from the sand in June, but this was a big surprise.

Grunion run tonight 3/29/25
I’m gonna head out to OB tonight and try to catch the predicted grunion run. I’ve tried a handful of times when I lived in Santa Ynez but never had any luck, and I’ve never tried in SD. Since my 4 month skunk got washed last weekend, maybe tonight is the night
