True Story
I fished every day last week. On Friday I was dealing with some nagging hand pain that I assumed was arthritis. By mid-day on Saturday it had become pretty acute. So much so that it kept me awake that night. I was having trouble even making a fist. I wasn't sure if it was muscular, tendonitis ...

Re: Are the bass schooling on bait yet?
Will go first but know there will be varying opinions…yes the bass WERE schooling on bait a week ago. The recent cooling trend had them deeper with very little surface activity. The bite is still good, just deeper. My time references here (days on the water so far) are April 7 (Share Day), May 11th ...

Re: Barrett Rental Boats Setups
You will get great feedback here. My one suggestion is to get one of these, then switch around the head of you TM to enable driving the TM from the front of the boat vs the back or side. I have seen a guy or two rig up a foot pedal which would be awesome but more work and $$.

Re: Fires
It's pretty close to the lake, and very close to the single point of entry. You can see details here: https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2025/7/10/springs-fire or follow on watch duty. If you want to see how the wind may affect this fire, you can look here: https://www.windy.com/32.704/-116.720?waves ...

Opening Day 2024 at the Big B
Had a lot of fun today at the Big B. I would call it quality over quantity. We still got about 60 between us that included a dozen four pounders and a nice five pounder. A lot of three pounders also. The topwater bite was just okay on the PopR and the whopper plopper. I switched to the flipping the ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
Hey Shawn…ditto on no swivels. Always tie direct to line. And I fish 8 to 12lb at all SD lakes for bass if you aren’t already. As for lures, I bet you are throwing what most of us are but the bass have been finicky this year at times. The minnows I set you up with are great on boilers. Several other ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
A lot of great advice here. As I grew as a Bass Fisherman, I think the most important thing was fishing with others that had more skill than me. The second thing was to force myself out of my comfort zone and really learning new techniques. The third was constant refinement of those techniques. I ...

Weird day & a trophy bass (report for 7/7)
Hey Barrett crew,
Me and my sons (8 & 10) were on the water by about 5:30am Wednesday and fished until 7pm. Long, hot day with a big surprise waiting for us at the dock. We were lucky enough to meet up with JWall and his lovely wife Cynthia in the middle of the Pine arm, and while we did see plenty ...

Re: Weird day & a trophy bass (report for 7/7)
Also, I wanted to share this cool little rod holder I made for super cheap. I was sick of rods lying all over the boat so put this together in 20 minutes for $20 at Home Depot... worked great!

Comfortable light deck
Thought I'd share a this.
I needed something to make it easier for my old lard ass to be comfortable fishing in the front of the boat.
Had trouble with the ribs. I made a wooden one first that was bulky and heavy.
Here is a light weight version that works really well and is the same height as the ...

April Angling at the Big B 4/19 report
Had a lot of fun with my buddy Max yesterday at Barrett. We got 108 between us with Max getting the majority of them. One of the highlights of the day was him coaching me on jig fishing which produced the bigger models.

Re: April Angling at the Big B 4/19 report
Edit: I almost forgot to mention that BigC is too humble to toot his own horn so I’ll gladly oblige. This Barrett prefish was made possible thanks to BigC and the others that donated to this organization.

9/20 Big B report
Three trips to Barrett this year totaled about 250 LMB for me and Max. A little tougher today as we landed about 60 including a four pounder and a three pounder. Most of the fish though were what we affectionately call jumbo dinks. Tried topwater in the morning to no avail. We got most of our fish ...
