Re: squid

They look like Afro hair on the meter on the bottom. Cruise around mission beach looking for the beds. Most likely, you won’t be the only boat on them. Sabiki rigs work better than squid rigs imo for the market size squid.

Re: squid

All depends on squid boat pressure. I never paid attention to the bed lifespan but I’ve fished the same numbers for a couple weeks and made squid. Who knows if other squid move in on the same spot or what. I’ve also pulled up to numbers given to me by a commercial buddy where he had no problems ...

Re: Rock Fish for Beginners

Any of the good spots can go from "dead" to "wide open" very quickly (or vice versa) as the current changes. I use circle hooks 5/0 and above to help avoid killing the babies. Descending device or similar setup to help rescue little ones.

One more tip - good map (zoom out):

Re: Shelter Island dock damage...

No, damage was not from boats. Good ole mother nature.

Sand has built up in that corner of the basin, actually quite a bit. It has left a very uneven bottom right there. At really low tides, the docks come down on that uneven sand and get al twisted up and are starting to buckle and crumble at the ...

Tuna Tips Early July 2023

Hi, and welcome. Wanted to share so you can benefit from the errors of my ways on a recent 2-day trip on the Pacifica, a boat I very much enjoyed. The tuna caught were mostly schoolies in the 25-pound range with a few north of 70lbs. We finished with something like 79 BFT and 21 YFT.
