Panfish

My favorite lake population of hybrids were on the chew. Only caught 2 coppernose but hybrids made up for it. Bite was over when the sun hit the water.

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

After seeing the success of Ned rigs with the TRD body, I think that the action of the body is sometimes overstated. Or maybe that less is better sometimes.

Not to mention "poop baits"; a disgusting look to most humans but bass love them. Along the same line, Fat Ikas seem to work regardless of ...

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

How about the people whose 1st question is "what color"?

Of all the factors, color seems to be the least important.

Not to mention that many fish are color blind (i.e. don't possess all 3 cones that we do) to some extent.

There's the fishermen who think their lures have to match the forage and ...

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

Yeah, you’re absolutely right, lures that resemble natural forage don’t work at all. I’ve tried rattle traps- nothing! Top water frogs- nothing. Jerk baits- NOTHING! You know, I’ve even dabbled in throwing those realistic trout lures….what a waster of time! People who buy those realistic looking ...

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

Perhaps as a challenge to your lure designing abilities, you should try fishing at highly pressured lakes and see if you have the same conclusions.

The lure you shown consisting of a grub with the tail removed on a jig head is not far removed from a Ned rig or even a Trout Magnet. And your fishing ...

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

Depth, Size, Color, Cadence. Factors in order of my concern. Water clarity, Wind, current, vegetation, bottom construction, shade….others to take into account. Solve the puzzle, catch the fish.

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

Enough of the talk about how to catch fish. Let's list the factors of how a lure catches fishermen:

1. Lots of sparkle and mirror like finishes. Gold, silver and chrome always work too. Blades that spin around and around.
2. Flashing lights, sounds and secret vibrations.
3. New and improved ...

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

I don't always agree with Senko Sam but I like his positive approach. Much more pleasant than an angry, resentful sourpuss style.

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

Update:
Yesterday my partner and I caught over 145 fish using small finesse lures that included bass (largest was 2.5 lb, 4 pickerel (largest 2 3/4' long), many crappie, yellow and white perch and sunfish. Before we launched the boat, I made a few suggestions to my 78 y.o. partner's tackle.
1 ...

Senkosam: we are very interested in your experience fishing for "strippers". What lures work best for them? I have heard it is $100 bills.

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

We’re not worthy spoonminnow, we’re not worthy! No, you definitely tried getting me kicked off my own local forum for disagreeing with your New York techniques in your small little under pressured farm ponds compared to our fishery on the other side of the continent. I’ve seen the exact same ...

Re: First day out and over 70 fish in 4 hours

“ What about you Camo and Just Bass? Name all the conditions and locations you do well and specifics when it comes to lure choices.... or is it a secret?”
It is not secret, I only do good here in my small 400 acres private lake. I don’t fish anywhere else but here where I can find 10lb bass, 17 ...

Re: A good lure design = good action/shape and size

@senkosam Your posts about lure making are very informative and can help many anglers catch more fish. Nevertheless, I have to remove your replies to @camobass to avoid stirring the pot. I've asked Camo not to engage as well so it would only be fair if his name isn't mentioned here.

Re: I’m not an expert.

Thanks. Just try to keep one thing stupid simple. I have 5-6 setup for panfish, more than 10 for bass, but always bring just one setup. I don’t even carry backpack anymore just few bags of plastics and some hooks, is good enough. Minimalist? May be, just try not to forget things when move from spot ...

Re: I’m not an expert.

Thanks for sharing, not many reports here.
It seems the big bullgill are in hiding.

I found a bunch of them along outside of weed edges about 8-10’ FOW. It is still a lot easier to get them once the weed get taller and thicker gonna be harder. They are really hug the bottoms, though. I go after ...

Re: I’m not an expert.

So with all the attention the Ned rig gets today, it is fascinating that something very similar to it was used 30 years ago. I have a book https://www.amazon.com/Roland-Martins-101-Bass-Catching-Secrets/dp/1602392072 where Roland Martin goes on and on about how great the plain old spade tail grub on ...

I am not much of a fly fisherman myself but the some of the ones I know really get into catching fish on their own flies.
