Murray 12/5
As you know from my posts in the panfish section I've had a ton of fun recently targeting large Bluegill and Crappie on ultralight gear and micro lures. So today I decided to go after Bass on the same gear. I caught 6 Largemouths. Nothing huge but they sure felt like it on those whippy rods and ...

Murray 12/18
Biggest bass I've hooked at Murray in a while. He bit on a black Senko with blue flakes. I flipped ot to the edge of the tullies and let it sink. Never even felt the bite, but my line took off so I set I set the hook. I just barely got him turned. He almost buried himself in the reeds.

Re: anglers need to hear and understand this...
The population estimates are 95% confidence intervals. So basically, there is a 95% chance the actual population is within the upper and lower bounds of the confidence interval. For example, this last spring we collected and marked 3,437 LMB larger than 12" from Lake Skinner over 4 laps around the ...

9/13- SD River surprise
I thought of going to Murray, but honest, I'm there so often that sometimes it gets old, even
when the fish are biting. It's been a few weeks since I fished the SD River so I thought what
the heck...and there are no permit fees so I
can use the money saved for more fishing tackle.

10/31-PB SD River bass
Decided to skip a trip to Murray and headed out to the SD river. Got there around 7:30 and there was even more surface area covered with a green film than last week. I imagine that with some good winter rains it will be able to flush out a lot of this yucky green water. On the positive side, after a ...

Amazing Murray Story 12/27
I got on the lake just after the gates opened and had basically circumnavigated it by 10 am. I caught a few of the usual clones and bluegill and decided to head back to the launch ramp to warm up a bit and relieve myself (because I suspect peeing one's waders is ill advised).
As I approached the ...

Hood (Baby) Hawgs
The clock hadn't hit 11 am and Edna from Accounts Receivable had gotten on my last nerve. Usually this happens around 3 pm, but this was a new record for her. All morning, she had been asking ME , the Sr Project Manager, when we started billing a new client of ours, when SHE , the head of Accounts ...

Lake Hemet
I went to Lake Hemet yesterday with my son. We threw night crawlers and power bait deep. At the same time fished around with gold and chrome Kastmasters for about four hours. Not a sniff.

PB Trout
Went out last weekend to Santa Ana River Lakes and got this beast on hook up bait. I don’t really fish for them and this beat my previous PB by 6lbs. It weighed 8.32lbs. Super fun catch on 2lb test!

5/10-Murray Cat
While fishing for bass at Lake Murray, this cat decided my underspin looked like something good to eat. I wanted to get a
pic or two and get it back in the water. I should have took my time as it was not easy to hold up with one hand for a pic and

San Vicente Lake Record Redear 4.2 lbs Released
I got super lucky this afternoon at San V. After catching a bunch of bass on dropshots, I decided to target a few panfish laate in the day based on my meter readings and WHAMO, blessed with a tanker panfish, a 4.2 lb. redear.
She was caught on 2 lb line and a piece of nightcrawler, 18 feet deep on ...

Fat Bluegill, San Vicente ... again? May 21
It's officially a pattern at this point! :D
Really fun panfishing again today and upped gear to 6 lb. braid with 6 lb. leader, found the fish in the same areas. Targeting around 15 to 18 feet deep on nightcrawlers at the outer edge of the brushlines, similar to Friday's catch but added a fat 2.2 ...

Panfish Parade, San Vicente Memorial Day Weekend
After getting stuff done at home, I ditched the beach gloom for beautiful San Vicente and fished on both Sunday and Monday afternoons in the kayak. Overcast weather with slight breeze. This is trip 4 and 5 to SanV following the same panfish pattern. Its a slam dunk to take the kayak with the ...

Re: Panfish Parade, San Vicente Memorial Day Weekend
Thanks! Yes and I wonder if there are any 'purebreds' left in there. I highly doubt the people that keep the lake records(?) could properly judge one way or the other on species.foulhook wrote: Wed May 31, 2023 5:52 am Nice panfishing, I still have a hard time telling the difference between big bluegill and redear

Hodges Crappies
So,
As everyone knows Hodges opened last week. I've been starving for a crappie bite all year. I had to go. Plus the kids have been asking to get out as well. Thought it was the perfect opportunity for both.
Got there in line before it opened to ensure we got a rental.
