Re: Welcome to SDFish Forums

YES!!!! I just randomly found the new site. Soooooo glad to have a new place to connect and share our mutual passion of fishing. Looking forward to an awesome summer at the beach, in the bay, and in the Sierras.

Thank you to those responsible for creating the site.

Re: Torrey Pines

I was there yesterday morning at sunrise. Walked south all the way to flat rock. Lots of exposed reefs and attached kelp that I got snagged on a bunch. Lots of cobble in the shallows, as well. I found several beds of micro crabs up high out of the water, but all crabs were small. Didn’t catch ...

Re: First wild trout

The ones in the snow are brookies. The others appear to be rainbows, but could have some golden genes in them, depending on which stream you caught them in and how far up in elevation.

I’m glad you got to experience fly fishing. It’s my favorite type of fishing to do (hence my handle on this site ...

Re: Torrey Pines 08/04

Fun outing.

FYI- that’s a yellow fin croaker (not a corvina or a corbina).

1st Outing of the Year

I don't typically start surf fishing until the school year is over, but my dad has been doing pretty well the past few weeks on the halibut and he convinced me to join him on Sunday morning. We were on the sand right as the negative low bottomed out, and found a couple of good looking troughs that ...

A Calamity of Errors....

....with one nice fish.

That pretty much sums up my evening on the sand.

During the summer, we go to the beach as a family every Friday afternoon with a group of other families. It's mostly just hanging out, but I always bring a rod or two so I can toss a few casts when the opportunity presents ...

Re: Cake or Pie or ?

Definitely cheesecake…

..no wait, maybe carrot cake…

… or Boston Cream…

..Check that - raspberry Bavarian cream…

…but what about the Texas sheet cake my mom used to make?

Too many good options.

Re: SoCal Dry Fly Fishing

Very cool video and an epic looking place to fish. Small stream exploring and bushwhacking for wild trout is always an awesome adventure. Be careful...dry fly fishing can be a major addiction (note my member name). :)

Depending on where you were and how close there was road or ATV access, the chair ...

Re: Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report

Way to do, dude! That's awesome that you and the family got to work together to land that beast. As a dad who fishes with kids all the time, the chaos you described of the tangled line and not having all of your gear totally hit home for me. Fishing with kids is super stressful and awesome at the ...

Re: Mission Beach 7/27

Nicely done. An easy way I've found to deal with unhooking rays is to use two pairs of pliers. I grab the tail with a pair of heavy duty needle-nose pliers to keep it from slashing away at me. Then I use my curved-tip hemostats to remove the hook from the front end. Pulling back with my pliers on ...

Re: Eastern Sierra fun!

Great outing, Mcfish. I always look forward to your Fall reports from the Eastside. I'll be heading up this weekend for a quick trip, but I'll be flinging flies on some of the moving waters in the area. One of these years I've got to take my tube and hit the lakes.

Thanks for sharing.
