Skunk In The OC…

Pretty disgusted with myself. :x … 2 perch nibbles at Huntington Beach is all.. I don’t know if it’s the colder water or what… But my fishing buddies been doing pretty much the same for the last week.. I did see a fly guy nail a pretty nice corbina, but that’s the only fish I saw today.. Gatherd ...

Re: North County trips.

Went out this morning. Fished from 6:30 to 7:15. Caught 2 perch on crabs. Tried to throw an LC, seaweed almost every cast.
After 45 minutes, just got a cup of coffee and relaxed on the beach.

Re: Low tide success?

Thanks Everydog! That was a great article! I had no idea of the rule of 12ths but I'll put it into practice. You've inspired me to give it a shot tomorrow morning.

@Everydog, nice going on getting that tank for your 1st bean, especially with the difficult salad conditions. Well done !

Re: South Mission 7/13

Good to meet you as well Joe, enjoyed sharing some sand with you this morning. Glad for you to get that nice corbina. They're a nice mild tasting, firm but not fishy. Hope you and your family enjoy it. I'm sure we'll run into each other again.

Had a nice little lunch of fried corbina, very ...

Re: North County trips.

Decent size YFC. I love to do sunset sessions but last I did about a month ago was a bust due to heavy salad conditions. Almost impossible now at the SD beaches I fish because of the lack of parking after 4 pm. Can always find in the early mornings but not after 4 pm in the summertime.

Re: North County trips.

Nice croaker… I never fish evenings…. Like PK said, too crowded fighting traffic and lousy parking… It worked for you though..

Pacific Beach Tuesday July 15

I fished the surf south of Crystal Pier this morning about 9-10:15 on incoming tide. The pier is open and plenty of lines were in the water. Water is noticeably warmer than Friday when I was out surfing, but still not over 70. Huge beds of surf crabs everywhere, but you’d be wise to be picky and ...

Re: First surf fishing question

Thanks for the help guys! I had a great day! Got to Carlsbad around 2:00pm. Ended up with 11 surf perch, 3 YFC, and a baby sand bass. Couldn’t have even asked for that much luck

Where are the corbina??

I’ve been spending my early mornings chasing the silver ghosts on ultra light. My failure has been great with only seeing a couple shallow but not connecting to any. I’ve been fishing George’s, seaside, and Del Mar with no luck so far. I’m really trying to scratch this fish off, any tips or ...

blacks mixed bag 7/20

first post in long while, haven't been on this site in years and I'm glad to see SD fish is back to fishing posts. 😅 IYKYK
Fished blacks in morning on a flat medium high tide. got mixed bag of critters, started off with YFC on first cast which was confiscated to Mr. Osprey. It wasn't wide open but ...

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20

Glad to see something posted from Black's . . . a great beach to fish, but IMO for the younger anglers who have the stamina to get there & back. My knees would not hold up for the long walk or up & down the cliff trail. Hat's off to you for doing it and getting into some nice fish.

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

12lb mono works great throwing lucky crafts. I throw them on conventional bass rod. No problem with distance on any jerk bait style with weight transfer system.

12-pound pulls in a legal halibut in surf pretty well?

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

Lots of good stuff here. For Surf fishing I fill 1/2 my spool on a 2500 size spinning reel with 20 lb braid and tie on with your knot of choice, some quality 10 pound Mono.(I use a glued Albright) I fill the reel as much as I can without it spilling off. Then go launch some casts with a 4 ounce ...

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

The casting of a bare heavy weight to “wet pack” the line is a great idea… my wife used to fish spinning a lot in the past and when we would leave the dock, I would let all her line out behind the boat (nothing attached) and pack it back on, pretty much solved any spinning reel issues throughout the ...

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20

yea, love how quiet it is out there. It's perfect because the surfers stay south in the MPA and everything north is open fishing grounds. I definitely feel the lack of foot traffic encourages the fish to come in closer to feed. Have had some good session out there.
