Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.
You were not kidding about the stingrays, Butch. I was at Del Mar again, and there were a lot of them, about the size of a dinner plate.
Not a ton of other fish. I farmed a keeper halibut, which just came unbuttoned in the last little wave, and got a 15-26 inch Calico. And just one perch and one ...

Re: Crystal Pier 2025
Last day… No fishing today… Back has been sore, and I have to pack up to go home…. Thanks for the use of your beaches and fish… All fish were only borrowed and returned unmolesed except for some lip piercings… Except that darn SFC has my hook in his lip.. If anyone catches a big spot with a #8 Owner ...

Huntington Beach 06/06/25
A steady, if unspectacular small to medium BSP bite.. Ended with 15-20 perch on B2B sand crabs… The perch were smaller than what I was getting in Pacific Beach a week or two ago… Water was cooler, with surf manageable.. Little to no salad to deal with… A buddy managed a 15" corb, but that was the ...

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.
Everydog , Calcutta reels are very nice reels , I could make a list of all the attributes but they are in their own class. There are an amazing number of very high quality reels that can match the performance . Daiwa , Shimano , Okuma , and others all will fit the purpose . Guess the first question ...

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.
Take a look at tuning that 400 Cardiff there are some good videos on youtube that show the process . I take the surfaces that need work down to 3000 grit wet or dry before a work over with a metal polish , drag washers , bronze brake drum surface , interior of the pinion gear that rides over the ...

Solana Beach 6/15
Midday trip to Solana Beach/Fletcher Cove for some fishing and family time. Sand crabs were a little tough to come by but caught 6 perch (personal record for a session!) on both blood and camo Gulp sand worms. Surf was on the heavier side, little bit of kelp, but all in all a fun day on the shore ...

I think you've got the bugs worked out...Nice SFC...Everydog wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 8:17 am Sent the lucky craft to San Vicente Island. Unfortunately, it was no longer attached to my rod and reel. I got bumped once before returning to bait fishing. Getting the bugs worked out. Croaker.jpg

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.
Ah yes, the reefs. Good for sargo, bass & other species. From or near jettys & rocky structure as well I'm told. You must be fishing TP and/or north. I'm mostly at SD & south, open beaches for the most part. I know I should venture north once in awhile but can't seem to get motivated to do the drive ...

Pacific Beach 6/24
Hadn't been out to PB in almost a month so gave it a look this AM. South of pier half way to LG station; what a mess of junk on the beach and in the water. If didn't get bit in 3-4 minutes, line loaded up with grass/lettuce. Lots of sand crabs though everywhere. One perchie and after half hour ...

Re: North County trips.
Good size spot fin. Seem to be a lot more of them this year in the surf. They love those bigger crabs with roe, corbina too, if the perch don't get the roe first, LOL ! Bummer about the break off, always disheartening. Have you tried ghost shrimp ? Croakers & beans love 'em.

Re: North County trips.
I've gotten four of these in three trips and pulled the hook on about the same number. Frustrating. Using bigger-than-average sand crabs, which are a lot of work to find. But there doesn't seem to be an alternative.
Lots of other fish to catch. This morning, I tried the negative tide with a ...

Re: North County trips.
Krocodile is one of my favorites . You can use the single Siwash as supplied . I use a dressed treble that I tie that is almost the same length of the spoon . Just make sure the treble as it came from the factory has the single hook portion pointing to the concave of the spoon . Less snags . 5/8 oz ...

Re: North County trips.
Ah the Krocodile…..Baja staple. I like them when the surf is mellow, if the surf or currents are ripping, they still work but you can’t get that consistent sweet spot kick. I like trebles on the small ones either a feather or blank. Chrome with the chrome foil is my favorite. I’ll like j hooks on ...
