Re: Favorite lure of 2024

Square bill: I've used it more this year. The hits are hard! A "running the bank" pattern on any moving bait lure is always fun.

Saltwater jerk bait is more of a theory, but I got pretty nuts buying it. I need to go out more after local/surf fish. I caught just short of legal halibut on my first ...

This father-son team did an excellent job on Loveland. Jesse has been attending Loveland advocacy meetings with his son since before the lake was drained.

Re: Favorite lure of 2024

Definitely the Strike King Bitsy Bug Jig with the Berkley Craw Fatty trailer. It's been money all year.

I have used these a few times, but only the ones sold at Walmart. They have always been 1/4 ounce and white plus another natural color only. Your post led me to find them at Tackle Warehouse ...

Re: 12/3- Two for Tuesday/SD River

I never used it much or caught a lot of rat fish, but it wasn't bad when I did.

This the big Spro- and a post spawner from you can guess the lake.

I would like to see you catch one on a rat and report back, Vinny!

Re: San Diego Bay Fishing: I Found Them!

Your videos are beneficial for getting over second-guessing bay fishing. A trip with FIshtricks also greatly demystified things. I have done about half a dozen visits from Zuniga jetty to Pepper Park, all in the Kayak, so it's time for the being fishy part to kick in, at least on some trips!
It ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

Loveland Update , I have been told that a Loveland water transfer has started. I am not 100 percent sure but that makes sense.
I was about to give an update on advocacy for the minimum pool and other things and will do so via this Youtube video that contains my trip to fight for Loveland this week ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

A little bit more About Loveland:
While I was in Sacramento Tuesday I spoke with Carl Demaio's staff. Carl was just about to meet with Sweetwater Authorty directors and General Manager. I had previously met with Payton Galvez at Loveland Reservoir.
Carl has answered every one of my emails for the ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

The people out there, just by fishing and using the parking lot, are doing their part to help save Loveland.
I have used attendance at the lake as an argument for its public trust value, which should be respected regardless, but still.

Also, I have great memories of regulars welcoming others to ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

CDFW has been giving me a boatload of time and consideration. I am often sure they want to send me away, but not yet.
SWRCB says they are, but they haven't given me a responsive contact like CDFW has.

More than a year ago, SWRCB promised to help us by proving that the Forest Service fishing ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

You seem like a nice guy, but you are probably about to hear what some people feel about the Lovleand fishing post.
I am talking about getting it surveyed and stocked, especially with shad and any fish that didn't rebound from the Sweetwater killing them. Not about what's there.

Re: New Loveland Updates

CDFW regional leadership acknowledged having tools that could be used at Loveland in 2021. These are the same tools, permits, and agreements that I have been discussing here lately. They could have been used pre-Loveland disaster or post. I hope it's not too late now.

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

Very practical and good answers. I have used braid a lot, and it has failed when I wanted to bomb relatively light, or wind-catching baits, long distances! I will try both, though, with the jerk baits. No way I will go to the beach from Jamul with one reel with braid! Seems like 10 or 12-pound mono ...

Re: Crystal Pier 2025

I caught two small yellowfin croakers and some good-sized perch in South Del Mar about 10 days ago. The bait was shrimp and /or sand crabs. High tide, Washing machine conditions.

Re: Do you count your fish?

Party pooper alert: If I catch more than 10 fish anywhere, I won't be able to give an exact count most of the time. I don't care and don't like those kinds of thoughts - how many will I catch, affecting my choices? I learned at Loveland that chasing the highest numbers of the easiest-to-catch fish ...

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

You were not kidding about the stingrays, Butch. I was at Del Mar again, and there were a lot of them, about the size of a dinner plate.
Not a ton of other fish. I farmed a keeper halibut, which just came unbuttoned in the last little wave, and got a 15-16 inch Calico. And just one perch and one ...

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

True confession, I did have trouble with the leader to braid knots in some reels. I have not been having that; I've gotten past it with extensive freshwater fishing. It had to do with the wet and sloppy conditions of fishing in the surf, as well as my poor line-spooling technique. I will be ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

I continue to conduct research and press regulators and politicians for the sake of Loveland. Loveland was essentially co-dewatered by Waterboards, CDFW, USFWS, and the Sweetwater Authority. It's no wonder accountability is hard to come by. It has been a system that has harmed environmental ...
