Re: Do you count your fish?

I do count my fish for the most part. At one time I was taking a picture of every fish. On the opener of San V after Damn rebuild I posted on the site 95 bass. Of course some said no picks BS. I had pics of them and posted pics of group pictures. I was weighing also as a lot were 4 to 7lbs. But at ...

7-26 The Temp and the Fishing Were Hot 🔥

Got most of the way beck in Hauser by 5:30. Our first stop yielded 10 on various flukes and shad roboworms thrown at trees and the banks. We kept hearing splashes behind us so made the decision to chase boilers midlake. Nice payoff as we bagged another 21 throwing and dragging swimming minnows. Got ...

Barrett report August 5th

Hi everyone,

Here's my report of the day. Woke up and was moving like a man of a much more advanced age, so it took more than the usual cup of coffee to get myself in the truck. Got on the water about 30 minutes late, But it still was dark and strangely cool out. Pedaled over to Hauser, with my ...

Great Early!

Got on it early with a spectacular lightning show motoring out in Hauser. The pics don’t do it justice! Anyway as often happens with approaching storms, the bite was good. Got first and biggest fish on a new 4 bladed white spinnerbait, followed by more on flukes, splitshot worms deeper, then the ...

Wed 22 kayak report

Got on the water with Dave @4:30, like last week it was foggy but today was much colder, went to Becky’s Cove hoping to reproduce like last week but it was tough. The fog and cold weather seems to hold them down, didn’t really get much until the sun came out. Went back to Hauser and got a nice 4.13 ...

Wed 29th top water fun!!

Got out usual time, Jose let us in early, wasn’t too busy at Pigs, met our buddies Dave and Joe, headed to Hauser. Consistently good popper bite ALL day, even got one on a Rat, the biggest was 4lb on a frog! Braided line really got it done, did lose some big fish on barbless hook, but overall ...

Frogging in the thick cheese

Got to water with Dave @4:30, unusually windy but managed to get them on the crawler, a couple of 3 pounder.
Headed back to Hauser after Dave left and started with the frog, dragging it over the thick mat of cheese and when there’s a water opening the bass would explode on it. Gotta have braided ...

Re: Frogging in the thick cheese

Yeah, without braid I'd not of landed half my topwater bass either (hollow bodied and boot foot frogs). The slime covers most the underwater shoreline bushes, and they head right for it after hooksets. Thanks for the heads up on that pattern 619. Ended w/ 15, all top but one on a follow-up Senko ...

Re: Frogging in the thick cheese

Nice work Michael, those are healthy bass, only negative i have is trying to get all that moss/white fluffy flower that'd stick to the braid off. I guess you have to work for them.

Barrett Report June 29

Hello all,

Got out at dark with pond_prowler_619, Ismael. Air temp was 56F, and the water 76F. Unlike Wednesday, there was just the light normal breeze that Barrett gets. I was already hopeful. Headed over to the opening of Hauser, but there were a couple of people there already, so I changed up ...

[Late] Report for June 19

Hey Barrett crew, posting this late report for Wednesday June 19:

With the help of the great guidance provided here (thanks again to those who responded to my "fishing identity crisis" post), I felt like we were starting to get our groove on again!

Me and my son got on the water on the late side ...

Hot June Water Drop 7-7-24

Had good intel from Early Release that Barrett is being drawn down for the benefit of Otay. With Otay at near 96% full, I can’t imagine why, but when did any SD Water decision ever make sense?? Well I confirmed the drop today (at least 2ft since Wed) and it had its predictable effect on the fishing ...

Re: Hot June Water Drop 7-7-24

Nice report, when i was there about a month ago there was some talk about the water levels going down to where they where a few years ago, i believe they want to drain it up till the old parking lot was... kinda dumb IMO also otay was suppost to be drained a long time ago not sure who is making ...

Wed 7/10 scorcher

Got on the water @4:30 with Dave and Steve, and it was already 70 degrees! The water is down @10 feet since two weeks ago, headed to Becky’s. For the first 2-3 hours I got skunked, which was really puzzling, Dave wasn’t doing great either. The lower water must’ve drove the bass deeper and the green ...

Re: Wed 7/10 scorcher

Glad you made it in seeing as you stuck it out till noon. I left at 10 and the wind was sending waves over my bow. Managed 14 on my usual, and only 2 drinks on popper.

Re: Wed 7/10 scorcher

I had to leave at 0900 and it was already hot and the wind was starting. Fishing is tough, with water level, turbidity ( mostly algae bloom, I think) and the wind seems to be coming up earlier.

Thanks to Chuck finding a pattern with the crawlers, I got a few also. The popper, wakebait and walking ...

Clearing water 7-14

Quick report, Im beat! Dawned it with another Barrett lover Dan and after a slow start things got interesting. Dan got 3 quick frog blow ups in mid Pine but couldn’t stick any. Big explosions tho. I retired my frog for a senko pretty quick and got on the board. Tried black n blue and it worked all ...
