Took my dad to fish the surf...
He came all the way to see me (probably more to see the grand kids), and I took him to fish the surf. He has been a fresh water fisherman for decades but not the surf.
So I setup the gear and made a cast to show him how to do it. The next I knew, he was rocking this babe:

Pacific Beach Perch Frenzy
After a cancelled session Wednesday at Coronado due to impossible kelp/grass conditions followed by a skunk at Mission, decided to give it another go yesterday 20240829_063409 copy.jpg morning at PB. Got there at first light and couldn't miss for an hour & half. The perch were hitting as soon as the ...

11-13 Mission Beach
6:30 to 8:30. Mission Beach had some good size Perch today. Caught 9. Those were the largest perch I have ever caught. Around 12 inches. No seaweed or grass. Water was clean. Pelicans were diving on schools of fish about 100 yards from shore.

Eastern Sierra fun!
Just got back from 10 days in the Mammoth area. I've been fishing the area for 65 years, so I feel right at home up there! This time of year I mostly fish Crowley, Mary, George, and Mamie. Crowley was fishing great, midging was the ticket..pulling streamers wasn't as reliable. I picked up 12-14 fish ...

Re: Eastern Sierra fun!
I just got back from a whole week at Big Pine Creek. You are spot on about fall being the best time! There were maybe 6 people in the campground the whole time. No shortage of browns willing to bite. No fly fishing for me, but my coworker just gave me a rod and reel so I need to start practicing ...

Re: Eastern Sierra fun!
My late grandpa introduced me to the Sierras when I was about 7, I’m 47 now and I’ve been going consistently every year for the last 20 years, keeping the tradition alive. I feel peace there like nowhere else, and my 18 year old son feels the same. One year at Rock Creek, monsoon storms came ...

New Glide Angler iSup
Hi everyone
Used to be active on the old site. Mainly fished from kayaks and from shore. Been a few years since I've had a kayak, but recently got a Glide Angler iSup to hit the bays.
It's been a lot of fun and have been getting on some quality fish, like this keeper Halibut from Liberty Station ...

Re: Storing gulp baits
I have a Plano bait locker that i store all the bags in. Has a rubber gasket on underside of lid and latches that really crank it down. That keeps the juice/stink in.
But when i’m surf fishing, i’ll grab the smallest tupperware we have and throw a handful of baits in there. Fits in the fanny pack ...

Re: Storing gulp baits
Pretty much any thing you use will leak after awhile if you are using it on the sand... Sand will destroy any seal you have and make the bait container leak... I use old prescription pill bottles, and after a couple of uses toss out in favor of a new one... They don't leak, a bottle will hold 1 pack ...

The Jetty Giveth, the Jetty Taketh Your Shin

I realized something this week. I haven’t actually fun fished in a while. Like, just gone out to fish without a tournament hanging over my head like the cloud that follows Eeyore everywhere.
