I grabbed my boat and made it to HB for my grandsons birthday. Ryan just turned 5 and I promised to take him fishing with his much older brother Caleb who's now 8. We traveled over to Newport Bay to try our luck so we launched in the back bay by Newport Dunes . As we left the ramp and it hadnt been ...

12x3 private island
Spent the weekend on my gayak. Covering serious miles ither n' yon. Trying for halis and veens mostly. Not too much success there. Lost a big one this morning in some rich person's backyard.
Spotties bit constantly on cranks, chatters, and worms.
Heard a noise hit my kayak and then splash while ...

Hey all!
I got a brief window to head out to Misson Bay for a 3 hour session. The last time I was out there I lost a massive halibut in the channel and was looking for some redemption. I also had an idea that I wanted to ...

Sunrise hali
Started throwing at grey light. Literally in the middle of nowhere. Threw a bass jig a couple times to check depth, 12-15'. Nice depth for the chatterbait, so I changed rods. 1st cast on the chatter. Boom! Gaffed her, stepped on her, stabbed her in the brain, threw in the ice box to die. 20 minutes ...

Tidelands Park, slow, very slow
Launched the float tube at 6:30am out of tidelands with the plan to fish the moored boats. This spot has always held some biters until today. Two hours went by and nothing, not a bite.
Moved out to deeper water closer to the channel which is a bit uneasy in a float tube. Right off the bat in 35ft ...

10/4 Big Bay
Launched out of Pepper Park by 7 am on a nice day. No sooner did I make it out of the marina and i hit fog. The chop was nasty and I couldnt see 20 yards in front of my boat. I got across the bay with no incident but I was nervous since the Navy seemed to be sending everything they had out to sea ...

Great morning at tidelands
Showed up to tidelands at 5:30 am to find a flock of pelicans diving on bait fish just off the shore. Quickly launched the tube and was quickly rewarded. Bonito! Threw crankbaits and jerk baits for a total of 12 bass and 6 bonito. Great fight on a 6lb trout set up. All fish were caught in less than ...

Re: Great morning at tidelands
Nice. We fished that area today. No bones but steady action all morning on the bass.
The bonito were actively feeding on bait balls just a few yards off the beach until about 7:30 am. I think I was just lucky to be at the right place at the right time. Never seen a bait ball getting attacked ...

I totally get it. I'm heading out there this weekend and was just curious if it was anything specific. Thanks for the info!

Re: Coronado 10/12
Nice looking raft there! Am toying with the idea of a Sea Eagle 2 person for Barrett and Sierra lakes. I have an aluminum bass boat but there’s times when it’s not possible or practical.

Harbor Island/Fisherman’s Landing semi productive
Started at Coasterra after dropping off the GF at the airport. Picked up 1 short Hali first cast next to the barge on a bait my kid was using and he was not happy about it 😂. There was a guy in a tube doing the same thing and picking up shorts, maybe he’s on here and will see this, what’s up dude ...

Re: Cold affecting bite in bays
Winter time is the best time of the year for spotted bay bass, go to South San Diego Bay.
Had 33 last Friday Morning off Bayside Park in the float tube. Work soft plastics on a jig head close to and on the bottom, get there at 1st light. Curly tail grub, paddle tail swim bait, Ned rig: they all ...

Re: South Bay 11/16
Has anyone tried eating smelt? According to the internet, they’re not bad table fare.
When I was a kid, I ate just about everything we'd catch off the OB pier.
Scaled, gutted, and grilled whole, no matter what species.
Smelt were good, a bit stronger taste than queenfish or yellowfin ...

Coronado Cays 11/16
First time launching the float tube out of the Coronado Cays was an absolute blast. By 5:30am, another float tube and I were out on the water and right away the bite was on. I've heard people say they’ve had incredible days out in the South Bay with almost 100 bass caught but I didn’t really believe ...

I'm in.
Hello all,
Although I seem to only fish one lake, maybe two, I recently expanded my horizons to the ocean. Well, why didn't anyone say anything about how fun it is? Tom Noel (1fishdude) took me out a couple times now and we have had a blast. The numbers are not there yet for me, but it sure is a ...
