Big Decisions (Where to fish Sunday 12/15)

Hey all I hope the fall/winter fishing season is treating you well. After fishing the Big Bay the last couple of weeks I'm itching for some of the freshwater bass. The Bay has been fishing very well for me but this Sunday is a MASSIVIE TIDE and I don't feel like fighting it.

Now comes the big ...

12/13-Bad to Better/SD River

While sipping my 2nd cup of coffee around 8:25 trying to stay warm, I suddenly decided I wanted to go to the SD river. As I was gathering gear pretty quickly , I knocked over the box of terminal tackle loaded with tons of different size hooks, all types of weights, Tokyo rigs, Ned rig jig heads ...

Senior moments and great angling. What would SDFish be without you?

Re: El Capitan Dec 8

They’re eating the jig down there for me, but it’s been a grind. Lots of slow fishing and grinding for a couple of bites. Sounds like winter.

Re: El Capitan Dec 8

Definitely winter. But still amazing to be out on the water in December and catching fish without staring into a hole cut into the ice, which I did as a kid...

Re: Strollin' Otay

Still going, fished from 5:30-9 this morning and landed 9, lost 5 including a BIG fish (minimum 5) that I watched eat my bait, shoot straight down and break me off.

Also very cool to see @Pourboy out there this morning. Was a super fun short morning for me before I head out to band rehearsal.

Re: Strollin' Otay

Wow! You are pretty much putting on a bass fishing clinic with those baits!
I see a sponsorship soon! Thanks for sharing your trip to Otay.....man you look like
you are having a blast down there and here I am sitting in sweatpants and
shirt sorting those tons of tackle not put back in its proper ...

Re: 12/13-Bad to Better/SD River

Full confession, I have a checklist taped to my garage door that I always use before I go anywhere. My last brilliant move was NOT on a checklist. I had a brand new baitcaster all spooled up with some nice braid and a leader tied on, which takes me a while to do, because I get nuts if the knot ...

Re: 12/13-Bad to Better/SD River

So, i fish for bass in various methods, and none have allowed me to retain any level of organization.

1. Co-angler on my buddy's boat. There is nothing worse than someone who brings 2 bags, a cooler, 9 rods, etc. on someone else's boat. I have a buddy who no longer will fish with my friend simply ...

Success at Otay!!!

https://youtu.be/FSARziSc2ak

Thanks all for the recommendations on where to fish on Sunday. I did end up going to Otay and met Corsoenthusiast (SP?) out there. Shortly after the sun came up we and about 30 of our closest boats, tubes, yaks and shore guys were on the fish. It seemed that everyone ...

Re: Success at Otay!!!

Nice job out there and enjoyed the video as always!
It’s fun to try something a little different, especially when it works. Actually @CorsoEnthusiast the other year told me using Damiki and hover rigs and I was picking up some bass on those rigs also. It’s amazing how many fishing techniques can pop ...

Thanks for the post and video=)
There’s fish back in Harvey’s too. It’s pea green soup back there right now.

Re: Success at Otay!!!

Thanks to Jeremy's ( @CorsoEnthusiast ) posts here I'm gonna give the technique a try too, albeit at Murray today. It's been pretty slow there but gonna see if I can coax a few nibbles with these lol. As always thanks for sharing your excellent tips and videos!

12/19-SD River quick trip

Quick morning trip to the river and a quick report. Only 2 bites....pretty much tells the story.
Bass were small, but better than nothing at all.

Re: Success at Otay!!!

In your defense. When the bass at Otay get the threadfin corralled in the back of those arms, the bite can go stupid. Sounds like they are feeding so hard right now that they are not scrutinizing baits and the bite is going wide open at times. I seen this a lot in the past a Otay, but normally ...

Re: Success at Otay!!!

Well no luck on the strolling baits at Murray, but to be fair I didn't give them a great try. I ran into some equipment issues and had to cut my morning really short lol

Hope your equipment issued gets fixed and those baits do look awesome!
And adding my 2 cents regarding Murray... if 10 ...

Otay 12/22

5 bass today at Otay. 4 of them were 1.5 to 3 lb clones and the largest went 5.4 lbs. All of them were on a chatterbait. I went to Otay arm to try hover strolling but there was really nothing going on there. None of the boats, yaks, or tubes reporting much success so I started working deeper ...
