I was using a Cashion rod which has a little more backbone than my Dobyns Sierra 701c. For jigs I really like Missile Bait's Ike's mini jigs in 1/8 for BFS. I have a lot of success pairing it with a 2.75" Yum Craw Chunk. They are cheap, still reasonably durable, and have a great action.

Re: Fatties at Otay 10/30
That's some impressive fishing. I was thinking fishing has been a bit slow, but clearly you are on it. Now that Hodges is closed too, you may see me lurking around Otay.

Re: Fatties at Otay 10/30
Great job out there by the way. And between you and Early Release working me in that direction I just picked up my first BFS setup. I remember trying yours at Hodges that day for the first time. I did pick up a few micro jigs too. I’m excited to get my first fish on it! I tried this week at Hodges ...

Hard work pays off
Well, honestly it is not that hard after all I am talking about walking along the bank of a small lake and casting...but it was hard to me. Been working at the Sulphur Creek Reservoir since my first trip saw a trout slaughtered by a bass. And for a long time I was skunked. Tried lots of different ...

Productive bait Murray 11/1
I found another versatile BFS bait that has been working well for me. Today I Caught several bass and bluegill on a Shimano World Crank 73F. The best bass was just over 4lbs.
It's an interesting bait, sort of a cross between a crank and jerk bait. It suspends so it can be worked like a jerk bait ...

3 November at Murray
I was able to get out on the water twice this weekend. Friday and again this morning. I got 5 on Friday and 9 this morning. It feels like I have caught many more. I have been fishing small flukes and a BFS walking bait (thanks for the tip Dannicus) for the most part. While I have been catching fish ...

Re: Anyone ever fish Olivenhain Res?
So much crime everywhere with little to no consequences yet you wet a line where you’re not supposed to, they treat you like a felon….
America loves felons and other sub character folks. So much so, they put one in the white house. :( :(

11/21-SD River am session
Have not fished the SD river since Halloween which is scary, but been pretty busy and was out of town for a bit. Went down for a morning session and morning it was as I arrived at around 8:30 a.m. The water was even greener than last time and started off working a number of reaction baits(crank ...

Short Friday morning
I arrived at the lake at 8:00 a.m. after dropping the kids off at school. Started fishing, and by 10:00 a.m. I started feeling like crap. Sore throat, fever, stuffy nose. Still I did manage one pretty decent fish on a jig. Been in bed ever since.

Strollin' Otay
Otay has overtaken El Cap as my favorite local body of water this year. Hadn't been in a few weeks and decided to make an early morning run in the tube.
Got in the water well before sunrise and was greeted by some busters and an early catch on a small subsurface walking bait. Threw a 110 Jr for ...

11/25-SD River was tough
Hit the SD river this morning around 8 am and it took just over 2 hours before I got my first bite on a brushhog that I tossed in between
sunken branches and the shoreline. Set the hook and enjoyed about 5 or 6 seconds of a nice fight and suddenly the bass came off. I mean I had tension on him and ...

Re: murray
OK...just drove over to Lake Murray and the ramp is open. The water level lately has been fluctuating.
The water level is really down just from a few weeks ago, but there was a couple bass boats out so you should be good to go for now.
Just go slow putting boat back up on the trailer. Tight lines ...

Re: Strollin' Otay
Round 2 this morning was even better than round one. The fatties came out to play this morning. Couple on a bladebait to start the morning, a clone sized one and a chunky ~ 4pounder. Surface activity picked up and I immediately went to the fish roller. First cast, my bait got hammered and my drag ...

12/3- Two for Tuesday/SD River
Yeah....even though I normally stop fishing the SD river in early November each year, but it’s
December....I decided ah, what the heck!
The water no doubt has cooled down so this morning I worked crank baits and blade baits as slow as I could which is not easy as I tend to work baits like it is mid ...

Pretty slow week at the Murr
Well wintertime and things have slowed way down at Murray. I've managed to avoid the skunk so far by the skin of my teeth. All I've been able to get have been a few clones on jigs in 15-20 feet of water. Most of the bass seem scattered and deep.
Still, I was able to pull in a few nice little slab ...

El Capitan Dec 8
Hello all,
Not too much to post here, but Vinny is right, there's not a lot of bass activity on the site. Went to El Cap on Sunday morning. Decided I probably was only pedaling about, so didn't go at dark and wait in line. Got on the water about 0730. It was still cold out and the water was about ...
