Yep, just keep dropping the water level til it's just a carp pond! San Diego's specialty..trashing the City lakes! Remember back when Hodges was on the cover of Bassmaster Magazine..the good ol days of Botroff and Brown! Now we have Toad Glorious and his City Council groupies!

Vail was a fun lake, kind of like fishing Lake Morena in the old days...another lake screwed up now!

Im fairly new to serious fishing (about a year and a half now) and caught my first freshwater bass on the 20th. So stoked. Also cool it’s minutes from my home.

Tough day at El Capitan yesterday. I threw a bit of everything at them and they were positively sluggish. It was nice to see Jeremy AKA CorsoEnthusiast out there.

I landed a couple of clones and a handful of dinks mostly on poppers right next to the banks . BTW I named the little one Vinny.

It was definitely a weird day yesteday. I figured with the full moon being two days prior and that weird storm system coming through they’d be bananas. Well El Cap may have been a grind yesterday, but Otay was amazing today! I kinda lost count a little bit but my final total was somewhere between 50-60 bass and 1 Bluegill. Most of the bass were topwater with 15 or so coming as a combination of cranks, jerks and even a few worms.

100%, the most fun fishing of this entire year so far for me has been the topwater bite at Otay. Floating in the middle of a massive baitball with fish busting all around and having them eat my topwater as soon as it hit the water ...

Otay is making up for a disappointing (at least for me) 2023.

Got there late @ 0800 hrs.
By 0900 hrs, was too sun-exposed and freakin' hot to continue.
As I'm limited to lake pier fishing, threw the proverbial drop-shotted weedless 7" RoboWorm.
Had one "on" for a couple feet after attempting to set the hook on the first tap. I usually ...

Or it was a 6 inch bass that only got half the worm in his mouth. That happens too. Be careful waiting for the second tap, especially jig fishing, that’s usually the fish exhaling the bait!

Went back out for redemption tonight and got a couple at twilight.
One I got on the second tap and the other I felt absolutely nothing but noticed my line racing toward me. Didn't hook this one in the targeted lip; but fortunately it was before ...

I used to rent a boat and go to Jennings with my kids. Enjoy! If you really want your kids to catch them, think about getting a dozen live shiners. I haven't thrown live bait in years but with kids and a goal to get them hooked up they are hard to beat.

Got on the water a little after 5:00 am and landed 6 really nice topwater fish within the first 45 minutes. At that point I was thinking WhooHoo! Otay all over again. Then the sun came up and the bite turned off like someone flipped a proverbial switch.
