Re: Fishing on the 4th
The fish in the middle pic was a perfectly executed sight fish. I saw her cruising, made one perfect cast to put the bait right in front of her, bait didn’t splash the water enough to spook her and I got to watch her come up and eat it. Felt like throwing a TD pass!

Cool New San Diego bass fishing podcast
Just listening to some recorded podcasts that Bruce Smith has started. Specializing just in San Diego bass fishing. He’s got some great bass fisherman on, which I appreciate. Also, he’s covering information on the city and the county’s plans on closing some of our lakes certain days and months per ...

Pigs at El Capitan 7/8
Got on the water at 5:15 and picked up these two porky beauties in the first 30 minutes. I actually lightened the first picture. I took it in much lower light than it appears. After the second photo conditions became clear and bright and the topwater bite was kaput.

Re: Pigs at El Capitan 7/8
Nice work! I have have a few topwater bites at Cap where I almost could not see the bite and had to rely on sound. They do let you on pretty early sometimes there.
Some good ones there for sure=)

Re: Pigs at El Capitan 7/8
Yeah, I think I will head there early tomorrow too. I'm pretty sure Murray is still all messed up from the 4th. I like Murray because it's closer, but El Cap is an old favorite too

7/8- Miramar fun and done!
Loaded my kayak up and hit Lake Miramar on Monday. It was overcast, the water was high and caught my first bass on top
which was a nice start. I started to catch bass on a topwater bait and in between a few bass that could not find my treble hooks.
Anyway everything was going well as I began to ...

Re: Best way to catch bass
There is no *best way* brother, but being a beginner you should think about looking up Dropshot on YouTube. A dropshot rig with a 4 inch plastic worm is pretty reliable and forgiving. It's how I started my kids, and still use it myself on occasion when nothing else works. Just my .02.

Re: Best way to catch bass
Hello everyone, I'm a rookie at fishing, I've been wondering what the best ways for catching a largemouth bass may be. I've caught one at Lake Martinez in Arizona on a pier using a simple hook and a worm, but it feels like that doesn't work for the ones out here. Been mainly using live bait and ...

Re: Best way to catch bass
Learn the dropshot rig and the wacky rig. Between those two techniques, get a pack of 6” roboworm and a pack of 5” senkos. YouTube is a great resource for learning about it. Even on the worst fishing days I feel confident I could catch fish on a dropshot roboworm or a wacky rigged Senko.

Playin hooky tomorrow/Friday @ Miramar - Who wants to go
Open backseat on SS Ranger. I asked Vinney in a PM, if he can't go, then the back seat is up for grabs. Cost? Just buy me a cheeze burger.

Hodges 7/10
I got to the lake early and it looked perfect for top water. Nice and overcast. By the time i set up my pontoon and launched the overcast had burned off so i started hitting the shore with an assortment of smaller cranks. I picked up some small dinks close to the shore on shad raps so i made a ...

Frogs and fighter jets 7/11
I went to Miramar for the first time in years this morning. I threw cranks, swimmers, Senkos, jerks, t-rigs, jigs and even a dropshot for a brief spell. The only bites I could get were popping a frog at the edge of the tulles.
Not that I am complaining! I love me some frog fishing, but I wish they ...

Tough toasties on the D.K.
Perfect day for topwater..but they forgot to tell the fish! I picked up a small fish on the surface right away and that was the end of my topwater party. There was a few scattered breakers the next couple hours, but not worth chasing. I broke out the dropshot pretty quick and picked up a decent fish ...

Re: Tough toasties on the D.K.
I got one small topwater bite early on but it was a clone, and I lost a nice topwater fish in the middle of the narrows. Came unpinned right in front of my tube. Otherwise it was just like Mcfish's day. Small worm fish and had to work for those. Had 3 deer come right down to the water and graze ...

Re: How not to fish Murray
I haven’t fished Murray for a few weeks, but I know they are still eating a lot of shad so any type of jerk baits or reaction baits would probably be the number one thing to throw. Weeks ago, my bigger fish coming out of there were on brush, hogs, and double tail Yamamoto grub in a little deeper ...
