Re: Probably a dumb jig question.

They make jigs in all shapes and sizes. Some seem to do better in certain structure than others.

Some head shapes slide better through certain grass than others. If you're getting 'snot grass,' I don't think I've found anything that slides through that.

Re: Probably a dumb jig question.

I just drag jigs while keeping contact with the bait. Jigs are like rocks and I don't expect fish to hold them long so I want to know as soon as I'm bit.

If you're in a boat, you can usually get your jig back when you get stuck in rocks. You can often break vegetation with your line. You will lose ...

Re: Lizards and popper v2

Great report!

Wow, that’s probably why those long skinny worms works there, they look like that rattler 😬. Did that thing try to get near you or swam off the other way?

Wonder if a bass grabs one and does the snake turn and bite it?

You know when you have that sence of someone watching you ...

Re: Barrett Lake May 21st report

Thanks Steve. When it’s the right area any wake bait will work, last week I was able to get them, so the Rat made an appearance this week.

Lake Barrett Bass Fishing: Is This The BEST SEASON EVER?
https://youtu.be/ghUwtghztcE

Editing issues but here it is hot off the presses. Thanks for the patience. Cheers!

Too much fun! Looks like an emerging reaction bite now that the spawn is wrapping up?

5/25 report and mystery solved

Another great day on the water Sunday. Motoring out by 6, this time with a boat rental. We explored Pine Cove — haven’t been there for a while. Finally got some top water action going with my dad’s really old popper. I feel like I know what the action should be like now. Caught both large and small ...

Re: 5/25 report and mystery solved

Super rad and epic with the grom!! I was out there on Sunday with my two boys and we scored as well with a similar experience. The kids got most of theirs fishing uphill with neko rigs / wacky stickbaits, but the standout fish were on the chatterbait, poppin frog and flippin a jig in the trees ...

Re: 5/25 report and mystery solved

Always retie your knot after catching a large fish.Even if it appears fine, the intense pressure and stress during the fight can weaken it, making it more prone to failure.Retieing your knot ensures it remains strong and reliable.

Re: 5/25 report and mystery solved

Great full day out there!! On your line break…I personally doubt the fish bit through your line. Not a bass anyway. My guess is there was a nick in it right above the knot from an earlier catch. Nicks can happen from wood or rocks pretty easily and you don't realize it. Check the first foot or two ...

5/25 Grom Day + Dad Bass Report

Add another Lake Barrett adventure to the family memory books! It went off for me and my boys. Barrett is one of my favorite places to fish and although its a full send from LA county it is so freaking worth it. Was stoked that we had mild weather in the mid 70's for Barrett standards and ...

Barrett Lake May 28th report

Got out in the dark with Chuck. Chuck and I headed across the lake and then into the usual places. Air was about 60F and water temp 70F at the surface. Got started on plastics in the dark, third cast was a 3 pounder, so that's a good start to the day. Played with the plastics and the bitsy bugs for ...

Re: 5/25 Grom Day + Dad Bass Report

You weren’t kidding about the power pole! 😂 I’m sure that made it much easier to retie when the wind picked up. Please tell Afran to make more “Barrett Roach” swim jigs. There’s just something about that textured green pumpkin blue fleck skirt material that sets it apart.

No Mas Wednesday's

This battle was lost but the war is still on. June will be the last month to fish Wednesdays at the Big B. Barrett will be open only on Saturday and Sunday for FY 2026. I believe that will be the norm in the other seasonal lakes. At least we got the FULL attention of Council on the many issues ...

Re: No Mas Wednesday's

Thanks for doing what you did.

It's really sad that an area that could be a destination for world class freshwater fishing is so poorly managed. I guess it's good that those people can't close our ocean, they'd figure out how to mismanage that too.

And yes, Barrett fishing has been great ...

Recall T. Gloria!
His 2nd goaround as mayor isn't going very well at all.
$268 million upside down on the budget & part of his solution is to cut services like fishing days & having all fire pits removed...
