8/24 & 8/25

This was my third trip this season to Barrett (and my third trip ever), and it was the toughest by far!

First day I fished Hauser, second day I fished Pine, but the results were largely the same. Was on the water around 5:30-45 each morning and threw top waters for a long while in a bunch of spots ...

Re: 8/24 & 8/25

Hi, nice report. It does seem like the dinks are the dominant catch. Last week, I found fish suspended over no structure and not relating to bait balls, which were also hard to find. I think there's something going on with the combination of odd weather ( for this time of year ) the clarity of the ...

Re: 8/24 & 8/25

Great info. How long was was your dropshot weight from the hook?

About 8-10” I’d say. I tend prefer a bit longer length. I also got good fish on drop shot just by letting it sit in the water, letting the wind and chop do the work giving the bait subtle movement. Overall had to take a very ...

Re: 8/24 & 8/25

YMMV, but one thing I know about Barrett is that Northerns are a schooling fish. I've NEVER fished an area and had to change bait 15 times and spend 30 minutes without getting bit, and then suddenly start getting fish.

If the fish are there, they''ll let you know.

I don't waste my time trying to ...

Re: Barrett Report August 28

I pride myself with having so many various lures from the decades of fishing all over my garage, house, boat and even in my kayak...but
I have never had a flying fish type of bait or a bait with wings. Oh wait...I got it.... I guess it is called a Pompadour. That bait is crazy looking and even ...

Re: Barrett Report August 28

Jitterbug is the pond goat. Had so much fun on it in the late 90s-early 2000s. I feel like the new ones don't swim right and the hooks hang wrong

Re: How is the shore fishing?

Thanks for the info. Maybe 3 or 4 hours of fishing the dock zone would be worth the trip. I can remember catching one or two by the dam shoreline at the last cast on the way in.

Always on the lookout for snakes, but thanks for the reminder.

Barrett Report September 7

Got out a little later today, since the bite in the dark hasn't been that strong and sleeping in seems like a good thing. Air was 74F, Water was 78F. Light wind coming easterly. Played about in Wilson's creek and didn't have much topwater success. Managed to lose a pompadour lure though. That's two ...

Re: Barrett Report September 7

I need to see proof that you didn’t melt. Just kidding …nice job out there. Just the fact that you’re out there fishing in this type of weather proves you’re a bass fishing stud. I was once like you, but now if it’s gonna be hot, even if I go early, just knowing that I have to leave really early ...
