Re: Late yet epic!
Amen DarkShadow, Amen. I've always used Barrett for just that reason. From day one, when I read 1/2 the field was throwing, and losing 100 Senkos a day on the bank, to land that many. I stuck with the learning, getting 'only' 20 to 40 per day. BUT now I know how to fish soooo many patterns, and that ...

Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
Hey Barrett crew,
I've been to Barrett a few times since this season opened, but haven't posted any reports frankly because I haven't been doing that well compared to late last season and I'm having a bit of a fishing identity crisis. So this is more of a plea for guidance...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
A lot of great advice here. As I grew as a Bass Fisherman, I think the most important thing was fishing with others that had more skill than me. The second thing was to force myself out of my comfort zone and really learning new techniques. The third was constant refinement of those techniques. I ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
For me, the most difficult part of fishing Barrett (at times) is eliminating water, as every inch of this place looks fishy. Eliminating water and finding a pattern is the first things we focus on when our lines hit the water. Unless the fish are busting, we try to use two different baits (usually ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
AND THEN.. wait till you add changing barometric pressure, moon phases, wind (or lack thereof), sun, rain and overcastness (is that a word) into the equations!
Basically, bass fishing is not for the faint of heart. Some of us like a challenge- well, most of us. It''s the thrill of victory (landing ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
Well said on all of the above advice. I took my son in law last Saturday, his 1st trip to Barrett. Not a lot of bass fishing experience. To keep it simple he fished a Spinning outfit and a wacky rigged Senko. I explained it's very important to watch the line because many times they will pick it up ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2
1. Don't use swivels direct to your baits. Clips are for hard baits that already had a split ring on them, swivels are for carolina rigs and that's about it when it comes to bass fishing.
2. Your gear matters a ton but that doesn't mean you need to spend a ton and it doesn't mean you can't catch ...

June 8th bite
Trying out my brothers Pro Angler. I normally have a double seater mirage that I use. It is lighter but definitely not as stable as the pro angler. Going to have to get a pro angler. It was definitely easier on my back than my old mirage. Headed out in the dark and through the fog. Spent a bunch of ...

June 9th report
Launched at Piggy's on my new super tube around 6 ish in the am. Sure wish people(Ram truck) would learn how to park near the launch so 2 people can launch at the same time. Headed across to the rocks, pick one up trolling over. Water started out at 71 in the am and last I saw it around 4 in the ...

Re: Hot Bite Early! June 9th
Awesome report! Glad to see your girl having a great time with you out there. Mine has started to join us this season, but not (yet) when we get the chance to go for gate opening... she somehow prefers sleep and relaxing mornings with our dogs over 14 hours of fishing with no sleep, hot metal ...

Barrett Report June 12
Got out at 0430 in what turned out to be incredible fog on the water. I was a couple minutes ahead of Chuck and it was some time before we could meet again. It kept rolling in and it felt a bit unsafe to cross the lake. I used my depthfinder GPS to not get turned around at all.

Re: Barrett Report June 12
Yes that fog was insane! I was more fearful about boaters not having lights. I stuck around main lake until sunlight, found new areas otherwise I would never fished. Caught a nice 3.5 on the new crawler.

Re: Barrett Report June 12
Nice report brotha.... topwater is always a blast i have a couple rats that are gonna get chewed on 😆 this weekend
I think I might bring a couple big lures too. I had a good one in the back of Hauser that educated me quickly on why I need heavier line. I may upgrade one of my reels to something ...

Topwater Saturday
So after a bad morning or waking up late, forgetting my tackle bag half way to barret then turning around for it,missed the exit to the freeway, then driving behind the slowest grandama on earth going up the hill......... finally made it to the pigs where parking was a mess and launched. Meet with ...

June 15 scorcher!
I was surprised to get a boat ticket since I logged in from work to do it...don't tell my boss...but I did so day before Fathers day I went (no, not with my kids they don't fish much), but with my buddy Chris. Started in the fog...just a bit but it was chilly. I guess we are late starters since we ...
