Re: Opening Day 2024 at the Big B

A couple observations from yesterday. I think the lake is real healthy. The bass are chunky, even the smaller ones. There are occasionally huge balls of shad appearing. The water looks great. Since the lake is so full there is a ton of submerged brush and you can get hung up easily. Some anglers did ...

Re: Barrett Report May 1

Glad you were able to repair all and get back in on the action.

Thanks, I learned a little repair kit might be nice to have. I must have been a sight spinning around in my kayak in the dark at the shoreline trying to crimp a tube with my scissors while turning a nut with my multitool. I may ...

Barrett Opener boat report

Arrived at 4:30am and seemed like perfect timing. No dust, no vehicles driving in at that time and rather wide open parking. Learned that they are now only doing 15 boats (with 5 on deck for backup/emergencies) versus 25 in years’ past. Noticed a slew of tubers but because of the lake being so full ...

Great report and really enjoyed all the details. I could visualize so much of your day on the water.
Pics are fixed and looking forward to seeing more posts from you.

Re: Barrett Opener boat report

Just keep moving when you can't find fish. They are there in bunches. A 10 fish day can quickly turn in a 30 fish day in a short time.

And don't be afraid to fish that 20 foot range, and don't let the runts in the shallows eating anything they can fit in their mouth make you lose focus on the ...

May 4

Pretty fun morning at the B for me. I had 67 by 2pm when I decided to go home. Nothing over 3 but the topwater was great for me in the morning.

The key to the topwater for me was finding the bait. It was an ok bite but it really took off for me when I spotted the wolfpacks. I would get 3-6 bass ...

Re: May 4

Nice work. I was back there, it was a little difficult with all those threes but worth it. A kayak is easier than a boat and yes frog bite will be on soon, I did get 2 on frog.

Re: May 4

Sounds like a good day out there!

I fell you about the being tired AF after a few hours of yanking fish outta that lake. Back in my younger days, it'd be an all day thing, getting back to the dock 10 minutes before closing. I would wake up the next day ready to go for Round 2.

Nowadays? I'm ...

Re: 5/5/24 Report (Rain)

Another healthy looking Barrett Bass. Hopefully we have a few years of this high water as it seems to be helping out everything out there.

Wed May 8th

3 clumsy guys fished from 5:30 to 4pm for approx 60+ fish. Most just under 2lbs. 16 over 2lbs with top fish at 3.5lbs. We got a few on the top but mostly later in the day. Bite seemed to get better for us later and quality definitely got better. Senko wacky and Texas rig was our main attack. Caught ...

Wed 8th kayak report

First in line, got on the water with Dave @4:30, it was cold and foggy. Headed to Hauser, didn’t find fish till sunrise, fog and cold had something to do with it. Started to get them on popper, few blow up on frog, the crawler seemed to get the quality fish. Much slower than last week, ended up @20 ...

Re: Wed 8th kayak report

Try a bigger jitterbug or the pompadour crawler. The bigger fish seems to crush it better.

Barrett Report May 8

Got on the water early with Chuck. Water was toasty warm and the air wasn't, so there was impressive steam fog happening. Feels sketchy at best crossing the lake in the dark, in the fog. I have a couple lights on the kayak, which allows others to see me, but then I can't see out in the fog.

Really ...

John, I have some extra crawlers, I'll let you have one on Saturday. I have never gotten a hit on the jitterbug at Barrett either.

Late May 5th Report

Got to fish the lake with my son and a friend on the only day it's rained in months! Cold wet windy conditions all the way back in Hauser. Thank God for frogg toggs! My sons bud won the jackpot with a nice fish just over 4 lbs! His PB! My boy topped out with a 3.2 lb-er. Overall tough, off day for ...

Re: Kayak/float tube regulations question?

I couldn't care less but according to the official rules these Jon boats are not allowed but some will continue to push the limits until they are told not to or cited. Its the way of Barrett...lol
