Barrett report September 23rd

Hi all,

Here's what I found for today. Got to the lake at 0515, on the water by 0545. Decided to peek about Wilson's creek for the early session. Buzzed around with some topwaters and then some underspins, but no takers. Water was a brisk 71.4 F, I didn't notice the air temp. Finally picked up a ...

Re: September 24…Always a Puzzle to Solve

Sounds decent considering what I heard from lake staff and most folks I talked with out there Sunday.

Seemed tough for most folks out there.

Bluegill on a rattletrap - no surprise. I have caught them out there on plastic worms, senkos, crank baits, jerk baits, hard poppers, and spinner baits. Also ...

Re: Barrett report September 23rd

I fish the double fluke rig a lot. One trick that works to change it up is through a bigger fluke on the back and then a micro lake fork or micro fluke (if you can find them) on a drop shot hook on the top. I’ve still doubled up that way but have got a lot on the micro bait vs the bigger.
The ...

Re: Quick (and late) report from 9/23

I do like the lake’s encouragement to get you to try lots of new approaches! Best of luck this Saturday. Looking forward to hearing what the last day was like!

Barrett Finally Wed 27

Got on the water @6, it was cold 45 degrees, felt like opening day. Noticed the water was down again, headed to Hauser and picked up 3 on popper early, 1 on Ned rig. Then went back to where they were busting, seems like everyone was there, boaters, tubers and kayakers. We didn’t have to chase, they ...

Barrett report September 29th

Got out about 0530 on the water, air temp was about 60 F, and water was 70.5F. I was a little worried that the cold front was already here and would make today a dud. Went over by Wilson's creek and followed the shoreline along with the popper. Picked up several bass and whenever I would hear a kiss ...

Re: Barrett report September 29th

That little guy was the last fish of the 2023 Barrett season for me. I hope it's not a sign for next year. :)

Those busters in pigs were a great surprise and the best close to a fun season. See you on San V.

Ecstatic finish

After at least twenty five years of fishing at Barrett, I HAD to fish Wednesday, since I hadn't been all year. Just couldn't break my streak.

Started around 1:30 due to complications of getting there. Went across from the dock to where the dirt at water edge is a light brown, almost tan color. Got ...

Re: Ecstatic finish

Speaking of the osprey, 3 weekends ago during a wolf pack busters near our boat heard a splash. Not more than 10ft away from us was the osprey flapping its wing struggling in the water. Few seconds later it took off with a 1.5lb+ bass in its grip, a national geographic moment for sure. Counting the ...

Re: Spawn on?

When I fished it a week ago, there were fish in all stages.

Some were hard locked on beds, some were wandering the shallows with a mate.

Some were just making their nests, and some were guarding nests.

Water temp was in the low 60s, FWIW.

Re: Spawn on?

You fished it ? Did you have to use their boats ? How was the fishing ? That's awesome you get to fish early I might add . I bass fish alot wondering what you like to use at Barrett ? Did you catch anything with size ? Sorry about all the questions if I never ask anything I don't learn .

Opening Day 2024 at the Big B

Had a lot of fun today at the Big B. I would call it quality over quantity. We still got about 60 between us that included a dozen four pounders and a nice five pounder. A lot of three pounders also. The topwater bite was just okay on the PopR and the whopper plopper. I switched to the flipping the ...

Barrett opener kayak report

Met Dave and Joe and was on the water @4 am thanks to Jose getting the crowd in, it was busy.
Headed to Hauser and started with the popper in the dark and got a nice 5lb on the second cast. Top water was working all day for me, popper and crawler. Did find some busters on jb. Similar to last year ...

Barrett Report May 1

Well, made it to the opener and saw several pals. Headed out at something like 0415 thanks to Jose letting us get going early. Water temp was already 67F and wind was calm. Chuck (619Bassin) and I headed out together and were planning to go back in Hauser. I developed rudder trouble with my kayak ...
