Barrett Report May 29

Hello all,

Barrett was really nice on Wednesday. I was a little worried since it was 44F at Pigs at 0430. But...the water was a pleasant 70 F and the fish were happy as well. First fish came on a popper and was a bit over 3 pounds. He hit it like he was angry at it and I have to say it was the most ...

Wed 29th top water fun!!

Got out usual time, Jose let us in early, wasn’t too busy at Pigs, met our buddies Dave and Joe, headed to Hauser. Consistently good popper bite ALL day, even got one on a Rat, the biggest was 4lb on a frog! Braided line really got it done, did lose some big fish on barbless hook, but overall ...

Late yet epic!

There is all this bad news in the world, but there are many good people, and many good things happen. My morning got messed up, unfortunately got to lake at 3:15 p.m. Talked to three guys at my car who said they caught forty between them. Good chat. Then one of them came over and gave me a handful a ...

Re: Late yet epic!

Sorry you had a rough start, but it's nice that other fishermen helped you out. I think Barrett has a good sharing spirit. Way to keep with it during all those possible downturns and make what sounds like a very nice finish to your day.

Barrett Report June 1

Got out early morning as usual. Quite busy on this Saturday, but great to see a bunch of friends. It was warmer, but not warm. Water temp was 70F. Pedaled over to Hauser and started catching 2 pounders on the popper and the 110 jerkbait. Got a lot of short strikers on the topwater. Over to Becky's ...

Re: Late yet epic!

Glad to see that the Magic Lake is heating up. It is a special place populated by happy Anglers. We can almost call it the Barrett Family. It just goes to show what a properly managed Lake can produce socially as well as recreationally. Real Fishermen are a great group of people, everywhere I’ve ...

Re: Late yet epic!

Hey, way to make the best of it! The first time I got the change to fish Barrett, before the age of Mapquest, I got lost and went past the 9 am cut off when they close the gate. I finally managed to get in around 2 pm when the first train was leaving, after begging the gate keeper to let me in. When ...

Re: Late yet epic!

Amen DarkShadow, Amen. I've always used Barrett for just that reason. From day one, when I read 1/2 the field was throwing, and losing 100 Senkos a day on the bank, to land that many. I stuck with the learning, getting 'only' 20 to 40 per day. BUT now I know how to fish soooo many patterns, and that ...

Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

Hey Barrett crew,

I've been to Barrett a few times since this season opened, but haven't posted any reports frankly because I haven't been doing that well compared to late last season and I'm having a bit of a fishing identity crisis. So this is more of a plea for guidance...

For context: I've ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

A lot of great advice here. As I grew as a Bass Fisherman, I think the most important thing was fishing with others that had more skill than me. The second thing was to force myself out of my comfort zone and really learning new techniques. The third was constant refinement of those techniques. I ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

For me, the most difficult part of fishing Barrett (at times) is eliminating water, as every inch of this place looks fishy. Eliminating water and finding a pattern is the first things we focus on when our lines hit the water. Unless the fish are busting, we try to use two different baits (usually ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

AND THEN.. wait till you add changing barometric pressure, moon phases, wind (or lack thereof), sun, rain and overcastness (is that a word) into the equations!

Basically, bass fishing is not for the faint of heart. Some of us like a challenge- well, most of us. It''s the thrill of victory (landing ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

Well said on all of the above advice. I took my son in law last Saturday, his 1st trip to Barrett. Not a lot of bass fishing experience. To keep it simple he fished a Spinning outfit and a wacky rigged Senko. I explained it's very important to watch the line because many times they will pick it up ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

1. Don't use swivels direct to your baits. Clips are for hard baits that already had a split ring on them, swivels are for carolina rigs and that's about it when it comes to bass fishing.

2. Your gear matters a ton but that doesn't mean you need to spend a ton and it doesn't mean you can't catch ...

June 8th bite

Trying out my brothers Pro Angler. I normally have a double seater mirage that I use. It is lighter but definitely not as stable as the pro angler. Going to have to get a pro angler. It was definitely easier on my back than my old mirage. Headed out in the dark and through the fog. Spent a bunch of ...
