Re: Barrett report July 22nd

Hey brotha what popper did you use? Im not having luck with any poppers this year

Any popper you want, as long as it's dark. I have used Hula Popper 2.0, Megabass, Googan and Rapala. As long as it's dark on bottom, I have been lucky. Almost every one is on the pause, also, so you can enjoy ...

Good times, and request from staff

Fished last Wed and the one before, very hot, but good topwater action helps me forget about it.

Oh, the road is in terrible shape, thought it was just me, got worse in one week, and Laurie asked me to ask YOU to petition the city to get it graded.

Always head out with high expectations... friendly staff helps check you in and get you out, and the lake rarely disappoints!

But sometimes the boats do, not too often...
Thank you kind people that towed me back to the dock (motor blew up 1/2 way down Hauser ...

Re: Good times, and request from staff

An old Baja trick if you have the patience and a portable compressor is to air down to 15-20psi (lower side if your vehicle is smaller). It’s night and day.

Re: Good times, and request from staff

The person to contact at City Lakes is Bryan Norris(619.668.2014) Its a bit absurd that we as fisherman have to request something that concerns maintenance. Its not like the place is not making $$$, after all it is sold out month after month. Seasonally, Barrett generates the most revenue of all the ...

Re: Good times, and request from staff

Food for thought – not really trying to rub people the wrong way or start a huge internet discussion - just giving another very important perspective.

The easiest thing to do for the city is to shut it down so keep that in mind before you start blowing up the city. This is a really valid point and ...

Re: Good times, and request from staff

There are ways to drive that road to avoid a majority of the washboard. I’ve lived on a dirt road my whole life. People from the city always complain about the dirt road and the people from the back country always complain about the people from the city complaining about the dirt road haha

Re: Good times, and request from staff

Some good points.......FYI Bryan is NOT your fishermans friend. Also FYI if there was not a stink made last season there would not have been any boat/motor rentals. Part of the contract with respect to the City Lakes is "there are recreational activities" available. There is supposed to be a "review ...

Barrett report July 29th

Hello all,

Here's my report on Barrett today. Got there at the usual time and got on the water right at 0430. Pedaled over to Hauser, and started throwing noisy topwaters in the dark. Heard some thunder and saw some flashes in the distance. Had some light rain in the dark by me. Kept working back ...

Barrett report Sunday 7/30

I’ve been stalking these forums for a while now, waiting for our chance to get on the lake. First time at Barrett was a Sunday, and it did not disappoint! What a beautiful gem of a lake it is, and such good fishing opportunities. We are beginner bass fishermen — two dads, and two boys 7 and 9 years ...

7/30 Report (it was non-stop)

Up dark and early on Saturday morning and left the dock at 4:30a with my son (13) and my buddy Rick. We decided to jet all the way to the end of Hauser (20 minute total runtime), which is where we finished strong last month. Covering the gaps between the submerged trees and bushes with poppers and ...

Barrett report August 5th

Hi everyone,

Here's my report of the day. Woke up and was moving like a man of a much more advanced age, so it took more than the usual cup of coffee to get myself in the truck. Got on the water about 30 minutes late, But it still was dark and strangely cool out. Pedaled over to Hauser, with my ...

Re: Barrett report August 5th

Sounds like fun! I always bring a light rig and catch some bluegill if the bass bite gets too slow. Always fun and sometimes the bass like the small baits too.

Barrett report August 9th

Hello all,

Here's what I saw at Barrett this Wednesday. Got there at 0415, on the water at 0445, once again moving as if I had all day. Air temp wasn't bad, wind was pretty light also. Water temp at Pigs, was 78.3F. Caught first fish at 0500, which was nice. It always feels better after you have ...

Re: Barrett report August 9th

Looks like a Prop strike on that Basses back. I killed a Marlin once when I hit it in rough water with my Center Console. Never saw it until I hit it. Jumped over and grabbed it as it sunk. Made a lot of Tacos at the Descanso fire pits, just past the Casino. Always great times in Avalon, 26 miles ...

Re: Barrett report August 9th

Nice job out there Dave! Interesting on the mini jig. In the past it was a go-to when the bite got finicky later season. And a productive one at that. Yes there's lots of bluegill bycatch (or are the bass bycatch?) but we seemed to catch more bass and many nice sized at that. Its a real trick ...

Barrett report August 12th

Hi,

Quick report for today. Arrived later in the morning, 0700, met my buddy Jim and pedaled over to Hauser. Air temp was mid 70s F I think, water temp was 77F. Jim held a seminar on fishing offshore structure with a jig and boated 7 fish before I even got started. I pedaled around and picked up 1 ...
