While I think the lack of the shad’s for whatever reasons (maybe die-off) or water conditions may attribute to the thinness of most of the bass being caught this year, I can’t help to think that these fishes are suffering from the ability to get all of the plastics out of their gut system.
I think ...

Re: Skinny bass
To add to my own above comments, maybe allowing nothing but live natural baits, such as, crickets and earthworms and the likes with ZERO plastics NOT allowed for the first one or two or three months, hard baits allowed.

Re: Skinny bass
This is just my thoughts and no way meant to say anything else is wrong.
The massive shad die off was the beginning of the year. They were some skinny from the beginning of the fishing season. The fish have skinny bellies and I have not had a fish throw up a plastic worms, it's been senkos. Why ...

Re: Skinny bass
Seeing as how I'm not an aquatic biologist and have been known to be full of shit occasionally, I'll add my two cents here. I feel like the fact that you can have 50, 60, and even 100 bass days out here shows that there are plenty of fish in the lake so maybe the balance of forage to fish is off ...

Re: Skinny bass
Any skinny bass I caught early and mid season were tight to the bank. During the same trips, all the healthy and heavier bass were in deeper water. I focused a majority of my fishing in deeper water and secondary points-none of those areas produced any sick or skinny fish. I think being a catch and ...

Re: New boats for Barrett?
Refer to the 2026 Barrett/poll ideas post. Again, when I met with the City I was told they were purchasing new 16' boats for Barrett. They will use the existing motors, most of which are a few years old or newer. As the motors seem to expire they are being replaced, slowly.

Re: New boats for Barrett?
No worries.....I will be speaking to the City after the close of Barrett for any updates. Anyone can always call the City Lakes dept for updates to any of the reservoirs. Speaking of which there is a very important meeting concerning the future of El Cap on October 1st. You can get the details on ...

Re: Skinny bass
At least now, the fishes will have the time to heal from their poked mouths, swollen jaws recovered and hopefully all the non-food crap will be passed out and can eat the real meals made by Mother Nature.

Barrett Season Wrap — Thanks Everyone!
Hard to believe the season’s already over. This was our third year of bass fishing, and it all started with our first trip to Barrett. Funny enough, I think the fishing was actually better in 2023 and 2024 than it was this year, but my numbers tell a different story. First season I was averaging ...

Re: Barrett Season Wrap — Thanks Everyone!
Great report! You have the fluke down. Congrats on some bigger ones. It's been fun running into you and Theo this season. Maybe see you on some other lakes now.

Pull the current C&R only. no live bait regulations. Period.
Install the Statewide 12 inch/5 fish bag limit so anglers can help manage the fishery properly through harvest. Less starving fish that eat discarded plastics because it's an easier "meal". The lake is only open 3 days a week 5 months out ...

Possible new boats at Barrett
My buddy said that his friend went fishing at Castaic Lake when the stripers boils were on the chew. But what he mentioned was the brand new boats there; 15’ Jon boat with the new 15hp Merc’s!
He didn’t get any pics but hope Barrett gets something like that. Boat had more of a flatter standing ...

I’ve been out of town for the last couple of days but seeing at this rain coming down, hope Barrett gets its fair share and brings up the water level a few feet or more!

Re: Lake closure schedule
I called in and asked that same question and they were gracious enough to call me back stating that the Wednesday in May would always be open for the opener, but the rest of the months the first Wed. of the month would be close.

Barrett opener
Got to the lake at midnight and already 8 cars in front of me. The launch at pigs was smooth do to the high water. Parking was limited, don’t go pass the bathroom cause there’s no room to back up.
To the fishing, the lake is unrecognizable, water level looks full, the island towards Hauser isn’t ...

Opening Day May 3rd
Opening Day Report:
Got to the lake nice and early and there was still like the 20+ vehicles there. Parking is still fine even with almost a full pool. Pigs is a little crowded though. Pops was kinda lagging, so we were one of the last boats off the dock. Anyway, Jumped in a boat and headed back ...
