A few observations from the above comments:
The City realizes what a cash cow Barrett(like SV) is. I just wish the $$ stayed with Barrett or the other lakes, but it all goes into the General Fund. Other mouths are bigger than the City Lakes(programs). I don't think they would ever screw with the ...

Re: Did you GUT hook a bass?
Yeah, the skinny hemostats are the way to go. I keep these on a lanyard around my neck....but also have a skinnier set in the pack for the really small fish. The Dr. Fisherman hemostats are a bit less...intrusive....when dealing with a green sunfish that somehow ate a 1/0 hook.....

Predictions for post-rain fishing?
Hello crew, I’m wondering what your thoughts are on the potential impact of this week’s rain on this weekend’s fishing? In your experience does the rain impact the way you will be fishing (e.g., does it drive the fish deeper or shallower or impact any other behaviors)? Just curious of your thoughts ...

Re: Predictions for post-rain fishing?
Fishing was great today. It should be good tomorrow too. John followed Theo's dropshot method. I used poppers, Rapalas, weightless creatures and this nifty little strolling jig I found that is just like candy if they see it.

Re: Predictions for post-rain fishing?
Yeah, 2 flats at low speed is pretty wild. Someone in front of me seemed to have hit the same thing and pulled over right away. I didn't stop until I got out of the gate so I didn't get a look at what it was. It absolutely obliterated my front tire, might still be stuck in the rear. Won't know until ...

Re: 2026 Barrett poll/ideas?
I just came across this thread. Great work Tommy. Monthly ticket sales is definitely the way to go.
I’ve been fishing Barrett for 20+ years and remember when they used to have more boats. I’m not sure if this is the new normal but Laurie mentioned earlier in the year that they were only using 15 ...

Re: 2026 Barrett poll/ideas?
All good points Dave. It does look like monthly sales of the tickets is the majority opinion. If you remember we came real close to loosing the boat rentals because of motor issues 3 years ago. The City is replacing them as they can. I think the number is about 10 new ones received so far. So with ...

Re: Advice For 1st Time Visit
Lots of snags so I mostly use weedless. Since I am using weedless, I can usually get away with using 6 pound line. Hooked fish will usually swim out to deeper water.
Can't go wrong with Senkos, drop shot and Ned rigs. If there is a lot of stringy moss around, then a Texas rigged Senko is nice ...

Re: 2026 Barrett poll/ideas?
i think the month before is still best. Most of us cant plan that far ahead and stuff happens that would make people need to cancel/sell.
FOR ME, the issue was never i want to buy for 2 month out, its been the way Ticketmaster's site works etc.
Lets talk more about the new boats!!! (-:

Skinny bass
While I think the lack of the shad’s for whatever reasons (maybe die-off) or water conditions may attribute to the thinness of most of the bass being caught this year, I can’t help to think that these fishes are suffering from the ability to get all of the plastics out of their gut system.
I think ...

Re: Skinny bass
To add to my own above comments, maybe allowing nothing but live natural baits, such as, crickets and earthworms and the likes with ZERO plastics NOT allowed for the first one or two or three months, hard baits allowed.
Barbless hooks are a MUST.

Re: Skinny bass
This is just my thoughts and no way meant to say anything else is wrong.
The massive shad die off was the beginning of the year. They were some skinny from the beginning of the fishing season. The fish have skinny bellies and I have not had a fish throw up a plastic worms, it's been senkos. Why ...

Re: Skinny bass
Seeing as how I'm not an aquatic biologist and have been known to be full of shit occasionally, I'll add my two cents here. I feel like the fact that you can have 50, 60, and even 100 bass days out here shows that there are plenty of fish in the lake so maybe the balance of forage to fish is off ...

Re: Skinny bass
Any skinny bass I caught early and mid season were tight to the bank. During the same trips, all the healthy and heavier bass were in deeper water. I focused a majority of my fishing in deeper water and secondary points-none of those areas produced any sick or skinny fish. I think being a catch and ...

Re: New boats for Barrett?
Refer to the 2026 Barrett/poll ideas post. Again, when I met with the City I was told they were purchasing new 16' boats for Barrett. They will use the existing motors, most of which are a few years old or newer. As the motors seem to expire they are being replaced, slowly.

Re: New boats for Barrett?
No worries.....I will be speaking to the City after the close of Barrett for any updates. Anyone can always call the City Lakes dept for updates to any of the reservoirs. Speaking of which there is a very important meeting concerning the future of El Cap on October 1st. You can get the details on ...
