Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…

I get it… Just being a smart a$$ and poking fun at bass guys and their gear… All is good though ,as we all like our gear…
Butch

Oh, we all do that.

I have a buddy who brings 5 bags, and ends up throwing 2 baits all day.

You're not a bass fisherman if you don't.

:D

I go to my local pond ...

Re: Are the bass schooling on bait yet?

Took my groms out on Sunday 5/26 and got into some quick roaming schools in Hauser. They were moving around a lot but when you got on them it was every cast on weightless flukes. Not much size to the schooling fish we ran into, but super fun. They havent quite came together thick yet like they ...

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…

Don’t think I have ever brought less than 10, maybe 20 types of lures to Barrett. I would bring more but there is only so much room on a float tube.

I was rigging my rods up for this Wednesday when I thought I would show some of the lures to my wife. Upon seeing the rat, she said “that’s ...

Re: First timer

When I yaked it, if the wind got super bad, I’d find a point, beach it and fish the point from shore. Wind blown points can produce epic bites

Re: Reapers

Split shot is the go to with a wide gap worm hook matching the size of the reaper. They actually work well on drop shot too. You can Texas rig them but honestly split shot is best. Keep them on the bottom, pulling it slow and pause. I prefer to stitch them. If you are patient, they will pull through ...

Re: Reapers

Reapers are an old school SoCal bait. Used to be that everyone threw them, like a chocolate blue vein worm. They work well on Texas rigs and drop shots too.

Re: Barrett Lake record

12lbs and change as far as I know. It wasn't caught on rod and reel or even while fishing so I don't know if you'd count it, but it was released safely.

No clue what the actual fishing record is. Have personally caught and weighed many 8lb and change fish. Never caught or witnessed a 9lb+ class ...

Re: Barrett Lake record

I think the record was a Bass with a lot more Florida Strain in it that wash down stream from Morena, during the El Ninos of the 93, 95 or 97 years? Not sure what the weight was. I want to say it was a low teener.

I have also hear tails of trout being caught in Barrett washing down from Morena ...

Re: First time at Barrett Lake help.

Hi,
#1, that's old information from when they would escort you to the dock. Get there after 0400 and the gate will be open. Give yourself time to find the entrance. I can't remember why, but I think people say it's confusing. There's a big gate and it says Barrett Reservoir, then it's a dirt road ...

Re: First time at Barrett Lake help.

Happy that I helped you, there's a lot of people on this site that have helped me, and I'm sure can add to what I said.

I do think you can get there at 0700 and get a boat, I'd suggest to get there earlier though, since one of the best times to be there is early morning. It's not just the bite, it ...

Re: First time at Barrett Lake help.

1. As others have stated, you can get there at 7 and have a boat available, as they don't overbook spots like airlines do. But, getting there as early as you can will give you time to get prepared, and wipe the eye boogers off. Plus, during this time of year, it can get brutally hot so giving ...

Re: Barrett Rangers

Curious to know if there is any way to tell what the rangers look like when they are out searchin for evil doers that dont have barbless hooks:? What are the signs? Attire? Boat? Goofy looking? No tackle in boat? :?:

Re: Barrett Rangers

You’ll know when you see a boat coming straight at yours like “hey, are these guys going to ram us?” or it looks like some guys are planning to move right into OUR spot! Then one of them may shout out “go ahead and put your rod down” (as that’s the one the DFG will want to see if that’s got the ...

Re: Barrett Rangers

Haha, how about not robbing a bank?

Just crimp your barbs, have a license, and don't have fish in your bucket.

Pretty simple. Then u don't have to worry about what the rangers look like, eh? Ridiculous.

They all have been more than friendly.

Re: Barrett lake emergency kit

Don't bring any actual emergency kit stuff but stuff I bring and use for comfort/accidents:

1. 50% more water than I expect to drink.

2. I have 2 Simms Solarflex Guide Cooling Hoodies that I alternate and wash every couple trips that do a great job keeping me cool even on absolute scorcher days ...
